“Good hotel in a central area”

Hyatt Regency Suites Palm Springs

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
Jul 18, 2008

I stayed in this hotel in 2001 and 2005 and greatly enjoyed it both times. This is not one of these large resort hotels that sits in the middle of its own golf course and has a huge pool and gardens, but if you want an upscale hotel right in the center of Palm Springs this is the place. The hotel sits right along Palm Canyon Drive with its shops, restaurants, and occasional street festivals right at the hotel guest's fingertips. The suites are spacious and well appointed, featuring modernist furnishings characteristic of the area's architecture but with a contemporary flair. The views are spectacular from this six story hotel that is the tallest in the city of Palm Springs. I generally prefer the views from the high floors that overlook the city, but if that view is unavailable, the mountain view on the other side is also nice. My main problem with this hotel was the mall connected to the hotel that has been abandoned in both my 2001 and 2005 visits, and both times I heard that there are plans to reopen it but that the mall's owner will not do so. I'm not sure what has happened with that property since then, but I hope that they will turn it back into an attractive retail project adjacent to the hotel.

“Very pleasant stay”

Hyatt Regency Suites Palm Springs

4 of 5 stars
Anaheim, CA.

I don't know why people are trashing this hotel so much. The location can't be beat if you want to stay in downtown PS. It's not a fantastic Hyatt that is true but it seems well taken care of. The staff were very pleasant and quick with anything we asked of them. The room was very large and while the furniture was dated it was nicely taken care of and functional. The only real disappointment is that PS has really been hit hard with the economy so a lot of shops are vacant.

We would definitely stay here again.

“Not as bad as most reviews”

Hyatt Regency Suites Palm Springs

yes, the hotel is dated. I thought I was coming to a flea-bag hotel considering what the other reviewers wrote. First I'll preface that I am a travel agent so I was able to get a travel agents rate for $99 per night when I stayed there May 13-15 with my husband. The furniture is from another decade, but functional. The bathroom was clean - no mold in our suite. I found our bed to be very comfortable - it wasn't a hard mattress like the one we had when we stayed at the Luxor in Vegas - that was like sleeping on the floor! We had a suite facing the city so we were people-watching when we were in our room for a few hours a day. So for the money I paid, I was satisfied with the accomodations. I just checked the rates at the hoel for June 11 for 2 nights, and the rate is the same as what I paid, $99 per night. (the t/a rate is $49.50) so I may say if you are paying anything like $159 per night, you will feel you are paying too much. It's not a bad hotel, but for it being a Hyatt property it's not up to their higher standards. The staff was very nice and Manuel at the bar very attentive. The location is great, too.

“Definitely not worth the price!”

I'd be embarrassed if I were Hyatt to have this hotel as part of my chain. The room decor is very dated. The carpets had holes and many many spots. Stains on counters. Mold in shower and the grout in the bathroom was disgusting. Hard bed and dinky pillows. Peeling wallpaper.

Had a street side room and the noise was very load even though this is the off season.

They charge you an additional $12 a night to self-park your car and although there was hardly anyone staying at the hotel (very late May 2008), we couldn't get a room change.

Although when we checked in, they recognized that we had prepaid through Travelocity, we got a call the next morning wanting a new credit card saying the charge card had been declined. Since the charge was on my Visa 3 weeks earlier and I had paid it, I was confused and not happy. Turns out Travelocity doesn't pay Hyatt until you check in even though they charge you when the room is booked and it was Travelocity's credit card that was denied. I had to get involved between the two and eventually Travelocity provided a good charge account. But it was a real hassle and I spent well over an hour dealing with it. To be fair, it was more Travelocity's fault that Hyatt's but Hyatt took the position that it was my problem and they weren't getting involved. They, Hyatt, wanted a good credit card from me and the heck with Travelocity. Unbelievable customer service.

Won't stay here ever again and will negatively recommend to friends.

“Karen from LJ to PS”

Hyatt Regency Suites Palm Springs

The staff was nice. The hotel was clean for as old as it is. Overpriced for what it is. Should not hold the Hyatt name as it is misleading as to the quality. Corportate should be held responsible for the condition for as I said the staff was professional and helpful for what they have to work with. Breakfast was a rip off. Have eaten juicier jerky than the bacon. Denny's would have been a better choice.
