“Not Your Typical Courtyard”

Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Old Pasadena

5 of 5 stars
boulder, colorado
Jul 1, 2008

I spent one night at their hotel. I have stayed at other Courtyards before (see my other reviews), but this was NOT your typical Marriott! It was more like a full-service hotel. There was a bar, restaurant, and everything was really accessible right off of the lobby of the hotel. There were bellman waiting for cars as they pulled up - it was a really classy place.

Everything looked really new, and they have the most COMFORTABLE beds. There was a concierge to help me find a good place to go the night I was there, and I found that it was overall a very welcoming and warm atmosphere (aside from the temperature!)

    • Liked — The amenities and location. Everything was at my fingertips!
    • Disliked — The restaurant was not open for lunch.

“Nice hotel, great location”

Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Old Pasadena

Jun 28, 2008

Nice, clean room, reasonable size, decent internet service. Food was good at the restaurant (I only had breakfast, though). Staff was very helpful. Great location, within walking distance of lots of shops, restaurants and cafés. Wish I would have had more time to explore!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Beautiful pool area, nice room, great location
    • Disliked — not much to complain about. Parking was a bit expensive. That's it!

“Horrible experience at the Marriot”

Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Old Pasadena

1 of 5 stars
Pasadena
Jun 11, 2008

I blocked a group of rooms for my wedding guests who would be coming in from all over and who would not be familiar with the area. I blocked the rooms in February for my wedding in May. Every time someone called to make a reservation they were told no rooms were blocked, there was no wedding by that name etc. I would call them back, get everything straightened out only to have people call me later saying that the Marriot was telling them the same thing: no wedding, no blocked rooms etc. I thought everything was set the week of the wedding, I called to reconfirm but when my sister arrived she was told there was no reservation for her. Every day for three days I would meet with the reservation desk, go over every name to ensure people had a room and yet when a guest arrived, they were told there was no reservation. I rebooked my parents three times and when they arrived at 2:30 am they were told they did have a reservation but no room, they needed to go elsewhere. They kicked my parents out at 2:30 am! That was when I lost it. The only compensation we recieved for all of this was a voucher for our next stay. It was appalling and I will never deal with a Marriot ever again.

“Really nice hotel”

Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Old Pasadena

May 8, 2008

I have stayed in this hotel four times now, whilst on business in Pasadena. Each time the staff have been helpful and friendly. My most recent stay was for two weeks in October 2007. As usual the room was excellent, and I benefitted from a pool / courtyard view (probably due to my Marriott Rewards Point status). There was a problem during the first week with my corporate credit card booking, but the manager dealt with the matter personally, and it was resolved with minimum fuss. As the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the busy shopping / restaurant area on Colorado Boulevard I did not eat in the restaurant or use the room service. Breakfast was business like and functional. The fixed price, could on reflection, be expensive for people who do not eat much. There is now the added bonus of a small "retail" shop adjacent to the reception which sold snacks, sandwiches, sweets and drinks, which were reasonably priced. The one down-side, the multi-story carpark at the rear of the hotel is open 24 hours and accessible from the street - my car was broken into and the Sat-Nav stolen - I reported it to the hotel, but as they have no CCTV or security guard, there was little they could do. As for the rest of the hotel - the pool area is nice - but gets busy on warm days, and the sun disappears off it in the afternoon. The bar was lively and well attended. This hotel has two distinct personalities - during the week it is a "business" hotel, serving the business traveller, but come Friday, it becomes a busy family hotel, and is popular with people visiting the nearby Rose Bowl. Would I use this hotel again - most definitetly. Would I recommend it to others - yes.
