I read reviews on Trip Advisor of bad experiences at Cascade Village, but was assured by the booking agent that those were only the disgruntled customers and good experiences weren't shared. I should not have listended to him!! I discovered upon checking out that I paid $25 more by going through Durango Central Reservations as the hotel also charged me when I checked out. I tried to tell them that I had already paid but I ended up being double charged and had to deal with that when returning home.
Believe me, you do need an AC when staying here in the summer. Everyone was melting and complaining!! Our bed was in the loft and heat rises. It didn't even cool off much at night up there. They did provide two fans - one up and one down. We slept with the patio door open which provided highway noise!
Access to the loft area was narrow stairs that were practically straight up. I am in need of a knee replacement, so this was challenging - I literally crawled!
The drapery at the sliding patio door was full of holes. The trash receptacle in the kitchen was partially melted from being too close to the heat register. The jacuzzi nozzles were not clean and there was hair in the tub.
The unit is narrow and tall. The fridge is small (like you take to college). Parking was a problem as spaces were not marked and people parked all over the place. We had to park underground and walk 3 flights of stairs! If you are able to park in front, there is 1 flight.
This would be ok for skiing in the winter. It is a pretty area and about a 30 minute drive from Durango. There was a great pizza place 10 minutes away in an old schoolhouse.
