What a disappointment this place was. When we initially called, I told them that we were looking for a place to stay "downtown", in the historic district of Durango. The woman who took the call said, "Oh, we are right downtown, not far from the Durango-Silverton train station." Well, this motel is no where near the train station. It is 33 blocks away. As a matter of fact, it is the last motel as you drive north out of town.
Then when we checked in, we were charged for our entire 3 night stay. I have never paid in advance anywhere in the world.
We asked the front desk if there was a farmers market on the weekend and she sent us to the local supermarket. We later saw posters around town for the local growers market. Why didn't she now about that?
The room was basically clean, but there was a serious layer of dust on the top of the bed headboard. The freezer in the fridge looked like it had not been defrosted in many a moon. The entire room was in serious need of updating/remodeling. The male owner spent a lot of time outside smoking which was particularly offensive to us non-smokers.
Even though we booked about 2 months in advance, our room was right by a busy street with traffic noise most of time both through the front and back windows.
The only benefit to staying here is that the rooms cost about $100 per night less than most of the other places in town,. Next time we will consider staying for a shorter period of time and paying more for a room.
