“Not so charming”

Caboose Motel

My team stayed here for a weekend soccer tournament . Most of the rooms in town were booked except for this motel and now we know why. Most of the rooms were small and not so clean. Us kids had a great time on the field but we went to the community center to avoid staying at the dirty motel. Another one of my teamates who didn't stay because her mom got into an arguement with the lady making reservations stayed at a condo for the same price in a much better location. Warning please take extreme caution when booking at this motel. Oh and there really isn't a gift shop just some old post cards, shampoo and little trains.

Love this place! My husband and I have stayed here several times in the last three years, the last time in October of 2007. We have stayed during all four seasons of the year. We have never had trouble with the a/c or heater. We love the convenience of the kitchenette. Frankly, this is one of the most charming places I have stayed. The rooms are quaint and well-kept and the office staff pleasant. People who are used to expensive chain motels will probably not like this place at all as it is a step back to the fifties and does not have the amenities of a larger chain.

Folks were told the property was recently renovated but it did not appear to be . The sheets looked dirty or stained and threadbare, would think that any respectable thrift shop would not sell the linens that the hotel used for the room. The a/c did not work well, in short the place was run down . It appeared that no one at the hotel really cared.

“What a dissapointment!”

What a disappointment this place was. When we initially called, I told them that we were looking for a place to stay "downtown", in the historic district of Durango. The woman who took the call said, "Oh, we are right downtown, not far from the Durango-Silverton train station." Well, this motel is no where near the train station. It is 33 blocks away. As a matter of fact, it is the last motel as you drive north out of town.
Then when we checked in, we were charged for our entire 3 night stay. I have never paid in advance anywhere in the world.
We asked the front desk if there was a farmers market on the weekend and she sent us to the local supermarket. We later saw posters around town for the local growers market. Why didn't she now about that?
The room was basically clean, but there was a serious layer of dust on the top of the bed headboard. The freezer in the fridge looked like it had not been defrosted in many a moon. The entire room was in serious need of updating/remodeling. The male owner spent a lot of time outside smoking which was particularly offensive to us non-smokers.
Even though we booked about 2 months in advance, our room was right by a busy street with traffic noise most of time both through the front and back windows.
The only benefit to staying here is that the rooms cost about $100 per night less than most of the other places in town,. Next time we will consider staying for a shorter period of time and paying more for a room.

“Quaint, Clean Comfortable”

Caboose Motel

Situated a little way out of downtown Durango this quaint Motel has evrything I needed for a good stay. The log cabin/pine panelled interior tickled my girlfriend who thought it was a great place.

Clearly a family run place we were greeted by the recetionist (daughter?) who was polite friendly and pleasant. The reservation was there waiting and check in efficient.

The room was a good size, bathroom clean and tidy and a small fridge kept our drinks cool along with an ice machine in the yard.
Although situated right on a main road the rooms seem set far enough back that noise wasn't a problem.

At $80 for a king size room it seemed a pretty fair deal to me.
