I just returned from a very enjoyable six night stay at Chelsea House. The Inn is well located about five minutes walk from the quieter end of Duval Street. Close enough, since Duval, the main drag in Key West, is very rowdy after sunset. .
The Inn is comprised of two separate houses and a sort of annex. The rooms by the pool are extremely small and the annex rooms are like standard motel rooms. We stayed in C21 which was a good size, had a lot of character, but no antiques, and a nice patio that led straight to the small but pleasant pool. The room had a flat screen TV, a good size bathroom, and a big wardrobe. My wife was really impressed by the Rusk bath products.Upgrading to a superior room is definitely worth the money.
A standard continental breakfast is served by the pool every morning, but there is no food at the Inn otherwise. We found the cleaning staff excellent, and the front desk crew extremely helpful. There is lots of parking and the grounds are small but well kept. There are convenience stores and scooter rentals nearby.
The place doesn't have the kind of antiques or ambiance you might get in a New England Inn, but it is plenty charming, and a solid base from which to explore the island. And it is much, much nicer in person than other similarly priced Inns like Key Lime or The Merlin. Chelsea House is a really nice place to spend a week.
