Very lengthy but take what you need... I just returned from Loews last month; was there on a mix of conference and pleasure. We wanted to take 4 extra days for some R&R so I did a LOT of research about this place and the other properties in SOBE. Here is the scoop:
Location: A-1...perfect as it is near shopping and restaurants on Lincoln Road, right around corner from Ocean Drive (art deco hot spots only 10min walk), 2 doors down from Delano Hotel (best food ever) and Loews right on beach. 20min drive from airport, cost me $32 cab ride. If you are like me and can’t decide between a ‘boutique’ style and a large conference style stick with Loews and visit the boutique hotels for lunch or dinner. The Delano, Shore Club, National, etc etc all very ‘trendy’ but very $$ for small rooms and no extras. The Loews to me felt like you were on a tropical resort (all inclusive style) whether you wanted to relax in room, on beach, by pool, spa, restaurants, etc.
Quality: Very upscale for a hotel of this size. I have been to many hotels for work and was concerned when I heard 700+ rooms here but it never feels that way. Lobby and common areas luxury feel, comfortable. Rooms don’t seem to match the decor in rest of hotel but they were still very nice , very clean and decent size.
Service: I should have this listed as point #1 ....amazing service-- ...from housekeeping to front desk to valet to those pool attendants. Wonderful (you feel like a VIP when you walk in, everyone saying hello and welcome) At the pool during day free popsicles, chilled towels, evian mists (over the top, but hey kind of nice and fun!) Room service fast and great serving sizes. Meals at pool wonderful. Housekeeping fast, had room done before lunch every day. Nightly turndown they leave you a daily newsletter, free water bottle and little box of candies. Concierges excellent. Summary, I think they must have 5 staff for every 1 guest....
Conference: Rooms were very good -huge, staff helpful, close to outside terraces when you have a break. Our conference was very busy but I found the time went fast. No windows in our room but well ventilated and you didn’t freeze your butt off as in some hotels.
Value: The room was well priced for what you get. However rest of hotel was very $$$ however I get the feeling it is like that everywhere in SOBE. Remember as other people have noted, there is a 20% service charge in everything so don’t tip additional! At spa I almost gave her 40% (they don’t tell you this, not good) Gift shop way overpriced.
Rooms: see photos, everything good working order. Flat screen new TV’s, nice reading chair, desk, robes, ironing board, tub and shower, good size bathrooms. We had a ‘standard’ room and I found it fine. Some terraces on lower levels not that private. Small thing but if you like a decent hairdryer BRING YOUR OWN. The ones in room and spa are the tiny ones on the wall with very low power, almost useless. Lighting poor in bathrooms. My friend also stayed here for the week and had same comments.
Spa/Fitness Areas: Brand new, loved them. Other boutique hotels have a small room with only couple pieces equipment, this one had 10+ bikes /treadmills/ plus weight room plus yoga room. They have a ‘calming room’ in spa very nice. Massage was good, wash/blow dry with Cherie was the best I’ve ever had! ps bring lots of $$ the wash was $70.00. Fitness had everything you will need plus daily classes (early AM) and great views of pool while you workout. ***TIP!!!!!! It will cost you $10 a day to visit the gym unless you sign up for the Loews First Membership on their website (no charge, and this allows you free access to spa/gym anytime you want ..plus a free welcome gift when you arrive -you get to choose which gift you want ..i.e. milk and cookies, or wine, etc) They don’t tell you this so sign up quick to get your membership # and makes a big difference.
Lastly, (no) Green Focus:
or should I say what green focus?? They have nothing in place for environment friendly .... unreal. Example: every day housekeeping with change your bed sheets (every sheet, every towel, everything.... ) The daily newsletters also waste of paper. pool drinks in these big plastic cups that could be easily reused but they bring you a new one each time. No recycle bins anywhere on property. Very disappointing! I am not a earth nut I am trying to do my part and the waste was so obvious.
