“Visions of past glory”

Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort

We stayed three nights here and at one time I'm sure this was a a great hotel, and there still are vestiges of past glory. However, cracks are beginning to show...literally. Rooms aren't as clean as they could be and many of the service staff seem indifferent to guests' needs. However, there is much to be commended: the beautiful beach (but avoid the rentals), front desk personnel who got us an early check-in, great games and activities for the kids (but a little wild by the poolside) and easy walking distance to shops, markets and restaurants. The valet service would have been worth it, as opposed to parking across the street for only a few dollars less, but one of the attendants dinged our rental car which we did not discover till after we left. This hotel is in danger of being swamped by the giants around it...a tighter control by management could easily return this place back to its glory days.

“Decent”

Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort

3 of 5 stars
Atlanta, GA
Jul 19, 2008

My beau and I just got back from a 4 day/4 night vacation at this resort and it was decent.

PROS: located directly on the beach; outside bar/grill; room w/a view of ocean; very attentive and courteous housekeeping and front desk staff; a little over a mile away from Haulover beach; sunny isles is very laid back environment; convenient on-site valet parking

CONS: NOTHING inside room dries because the humidity is so thick (bedding was damp, wet clothes need to be left outside and still might not get dry); Kitchen 305 staff didn't inform us of special discounts on meals for hotel guests; floors 2, 3 and 4 - facing the pool - are noisy

Resort is truly designed for families with tweens/teens, not couples or singles looking for an adult experience (i.e., quiet, relaxing, calm energy). However, its convenient location is worth the stay.

“Good hotel for the cost”

Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort

Jul 17, 2008

I booked this hotel on Expedia. The price was good for the location and the charge for the rental car parking was only ten dollars per day. The hotel was nice and clean. The staff were also very friendly. My only complaint was that the pillows were very hard and I recommend bringing your own pillows!

“Looking for a relaxing oasis? This is not the place for you!”

Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort

My mother and I stayed at Newport Beachside Resort at the end of June. She had booked the hotel as a recommendation from my aunt. We had planned this trip as a beach getaway and that was what I was expecting. This place is ANYTHING BUT.

When I arrived, I pulled back the covers on my bed and saw that there were long black hairs on the pillows. The housekeeping was lax, and did not come every day. I was having issues with my shower and it took forever for maintenance to arrive - which left me stuck in my room for ages (which is not something you want to be doing while on vacation).

The lobby was a zoo, the pool was filled with screaming kids from end to end, so I was never able to use the pool. The pool area has a DJ blasting music all day as well. The beach is attractive but leaves a lot to be desired, as it's small, and when you try to distance yourself by moving your chair away from the crowd, the beach attendant comes by and tells you to move your chair back within the line marked by the cones. Nice - so now instead of being able to look at the beautiful ocean, I get a view of the back of someone's chair.

Understandably, this is a lower cost hotel, so you get what you pay for: loud, obnoxious clientele and so-so staff and service.

If you're an adult looking for a classy, elegant and tranquil beach resort or a couple looking for a romantic getaway, this is NOT the place for you! Unless you're into kids running around everywhere, DJs blasting club music 24/7 and lackadaisical service, then I would stay away. I know I will.

“Beatiful location awful service”

Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort

It looks like it's their standard practice to sold out the rooms that you paid in advance. When we arrived there it turned out that they didn't have a room for us in spite of that we paid for it 3 months before.

You have to really kick the [--] of their room keeping service before they start to work. At first day they didn't show at all and I had to complain 3 times to their desk before they took garbage out.

So all in all it's a kind of cheap hotel with an awful service still in a beautiful location.
