“Somewhat disappointing”

We were slightly disappointed with the stay at Loon Mountain. The check in desk was not marked, so when we arrived after dark it was very difficult to figure out where it was. There must have been some kind of religious convention there and it made us feel somewhat out of place.

When we arrived and checked into the room, the key card would not work, and it took a while for it to get fixed. It would have been nice if they had offered a little "thank you for dealing with the inconvenience" by giving us a free dinner or something complimentary. There was no liquid dish soap for the dishes. It would be a good idea for the resort to let us know what type of things we might like to bring for our convenience.

Although, the room and facilities were clean, we found there to be some kind of smell that was musty and it irritated our allergies and might have ruined our trip except for the Claritin.

The high windows had vertical blinds that we could not open and so we missed the full length view of the mountain. The restaurant was very expensive, as well as the concession booth. One evening, we asked to use one of the board games in our room, but the reception desk said that the board games could not be taken to the room. The jukebox in the games room took our money and didn't play the song we requested.

Overall, we were disappointed by the resort. Especially, considering the high price. Additionally, we requested the military discount of 10%, but the reception said that there is already a 10% discount for the bill which is not related to the military discount. We were very unhappy about this, but there was nothing we could do about it.

We stayed at the Mountain Club over Labor Day weekend. We have stayed before but were pleasently surprised to see that they have renovated some of there units. For a small extra fee the units are WONDERFUL!! The breakfast buffet was once again great not to mention the very friendly staff with alot of familare faces.

“Expensive, but had great time”

We just returned from 4 nights at The Mountain Club where we stayed in a full size suite. We were very happy with the accomodations - which was two units connected by a shared entryway. One unit was a typical hotel room with king bed, sofa and full bath. The other was a very large open unit with kitchen, dining area, bathroom and sleeping/living area. There were two murphy beds and two day beds. For a family of four, it was more than ample space and gave us parents a bit of sanctuary in the separate bedroom. The rooms appeared to be recently remodeled and were very clean. The kitchen is well-stocked and even has a dishwasher. Nice views from both rooms. The maid vacuumed every day. It was so peaceful and relaxing on the mountain, I could have easily just stayed at the resort and not ventured out the whole time. We booked a package (about $1000 total) that included Whale's tale waterpark and coupons for dinner and breakfast. Even with the $20 coupon, dinner came to $70 with no liquor, and the youngest eating for free. Breakfast came to about $23 with the coupon. However, food quality was excellent. Plenty to do in the area. For reasonable prices and good food, go to *** Gordi's*** . Nice salad bar. Both the indoor and outdoor pool are great. Outdoor pool does not go over 4 feet deep. Towels provided at the spa. I found the spa staff very friendly and helpful. The one thing they could improve is the hallways and parking. Very very tight parking spaces - although it is nice to be able to park in a garage for free. Inside hallways are not cooled in summer and were stifling. Overall we had a great time. My husband wants to return in the winter for ski trip.

“In a constant state of decline”

For the past 7 years we have gone to the Mountain Club at Loon Mountain in Lincoln New Hampshire - during snow season and summer.

Its location is ideal - in the White Mountains - and rates not outrageous. After that it is all DOWN HILL ---and I dont mean in skiing.

The hallways are dirty, smell bad with buckled carpet. The rooms - including non - smoking, reek of smoke. there is a Motel 6 ambience to the place which looks as if developers are poised to buy it, gut it and upgrade it ---but that has been the case since 2000.

The front desk when asked about local restaurants and hours responded "I wouldnt know - I'll give you their number" and the only coffee options in the morning are the tastless nameless brand in the room or $2.25 coffees in the lobby.

The spa - now the "Viaggio Spa" as if an Italian name can mask the same nasty desk staff and decrepit spaces is also lacking. The steam room isnt steamy (this is not a new issue - I have raised it for 5 years), the sauna is scalding and the floor tiles in the shower were last cleaned in the previous century.

I wont comment on the restaurant but if beef and cream are your preferences go for it. Otherwise forget it.

The hiking on the Kancamangus and up the Notch remain outside ---just avoid late July and August.

“Great Time, reasonably priced”

I stayed at the Mountain Club on the Loon with my three teenagers. All four of us liked the resort. In doing the research I thought all hotels were overpriced. We paid $489 (not including taxes) for four nights...they had a fourth night free special. This was $122.25 a night. Included was the gondola ride up to the caves (the base of the gondola ride is right at the hotel), usually $12 a piece. Enjoyed the caves, but it wouldn't have been worth the $12 if I had paid that. The caves at Polar Caves and Lost River are much better. The room was a studio, 2 day beds, a pull down queen bed, eating area, kitchen, and one bathroom. I could have paid an extra $300 for the adjoining room for an extra bed and bath, but I didn't think it was worth it. The queen bed was comfortable and I heard no complaints about the day beds. The only bedding complaint was some of the pillows were super thin. The room was good size and clean.

Also at the hotel is a real nice indoor pool and outdoor pool. The fitness center was the best I had seen at a hotel (maybe that is because I usually don't stay at a resort). Onsite racquetball court (or basketball court) is available. An extra cost is involved, $10/30 minutes or $15/60 minutes. I didn't see the extra cost advertised in the amenities, but they are up front with it on the telephone so it wasn't a surprise. Tennis courts are also advertised as an amenity, but the courts are at the Village at the Loon (across the street, but still about a mile away). There is no cost to use them.

The staff was very helpful. Any requests were promptly handled. My daughter became ill overnight and the person at the counter opened up the mini-store they have so I could get her some medicine.

I didn't go to the restaurant because it was too expensive. Even with the $20 dinner and $10 breakfast coupon we received it was cheaper just to go into town as they have some nice places in Lincoln and Woodstock.
