This hotel is one of the most terrible hotel i stayed in.
Hotel staff was not friendly at all. I stayed in room number 416 and bathroom tub did not drain. When i came back to hotel in evening after spending long day in NYC. I found that bath tub has drainage block problem and there was no way i could have taken bath in there.

When i contacted hotel staff about this problem they told me that they will get back to me in 10 mins. I called them again after about 20 mins. Then they again said same thing. After about an hour i went down to lobby and they told me that they can not help me with this. They told me to fix the bath tub drain problem myself!!!

Finally they gave me a key to broken room where i and my wife had to take all my towels, and other cloths and take bath and come back to my room again.

Till this point it was bad but it even went worse. When I asked them that they did not have this room ready, they can not charge me full room rent. They told me that because priceline does not allow refund they can not do.

In lobby one staff (Clair) told me that they are going to give me 2000 Candellwood priority club points which are worth about $400. THis was total lie and deciving when i checked on their website it was worth nothing. Infact they give that many points anyway for signing up.

Really a very basic property. A/C is noisy when it does work (thermostat had issues, goofy energy-savings system often shuts off the a/c because it thinks you are not in the room, etc.) Free internet is slow (500bps!) Front desk staff that isn't really all that responsive... ("Oh, your A/C is broken? Please check back at 9am tomorrow when the manager is in so we can notify maintenance...")

The rate makes the place bearable. My advice is to check around and only book the Candlewood as a last resort. There are a few other properties that are much much much nicer for not too much more money.

I feel the need to update the review I gave this hotel Feb. 11, 2006 in which I stated their mattresses were way too firm for side sleepers. The new mattresses and bedding are ever so much better!! It was a very wise investment on their part and will keep us coming back in spite of having to change rooms this visit due to a problem with the a/c in our room.

The Double Tree is a worthy competitor for this hotel, so they need to stay on their toes to keep customers. They do this for the most part, but I think they sometimes have a hard time staying on top of maintenance issues. While the a/c worrked in the room we moved to, the door would only lock when you used the dead
bolt which was an issue whenever we left the room. Other stays, we've encountered locks on the exterior gates out of order. These are little things, but it seems like there's always something every time we are there. I just can't give this place a 5 star rating yet.

This hotel met our needs -- a cheap hotel near Manhatten for 3 rooms for a teen birthday to Broadway. The rooms were quite nice -- absolutely NO complaints. The staff was basic and pleasant, but struggled with simple requests. Note, I think the PATH train just south (by the Hyatt) may be closer than the one they sent us to at Pavonia.
