This fully self contained resort is a little off the beaten path, on the Santa Ana reservation, within a mile or two of their casino (but far enough away to be completely separate). It is a $70 cab ride from the Albuquerque airport. It is about 20-22 miles to central Albuquerque. It is farther to Santa Fe, but I didn't make the trip over there. I suggest renting a car, even if you're only here for a couple of days, given the remoteness of the resort.
The good news is that everything you want is here. The resort is only 3 years old and is owned by the tribe. They've done it right: nicely appointed, spacious rooms, as you'd expect from Hyatt. Southwestern decor of course. A very nice resort course with five tee boxes (rental clubs cost $50). Nice spa. Three pools, very kid friendly with TONS of kids activities, including horseback riding, free bikes (including ones with training wheels AND covered trailers to tow the really little ones!) for the trails, crafts (including making adobe blocks), a big water slide, native american stories read under the stars at night, horseshoes, archery, etc.
The amazing thing, though, is how friendly everyone is. Unfailingly polite and helpful, just about any hotel staff in the world could learn from these folks. Genuinely accomodating and interested in your comfort, these folks are wonderful.
The resort is horizontally laid out, not vertical, in keeping with native american architecture. So this creates really long buildings. If you get a room like I did (2160), you'll be walking a long ways back to the lobby (300 steps to be exact). Try to get a room in the 2100-2130 range; much more convenient.
I was here on business, so I didn't try the restaurants, but did have a $12 sandwich in the bar which was fine. It seems they do a fair amount of business with meetings/conventions. This did not detract from the atmosphere, in my opinion.
I would not hesitate for a second to bring my family here for a vacation. If you prefer being the middle of it all, don't come here because you'll be a little bit away from everything. But isn't that the whole idea of taking a vacation anyway?
