Get one of the comfortable booths in the back room - there might be a special that night: we got the $29.95 for 2 dinners deal. Not bad at all. Service was pleasant, bread basket good. One thing to note: brand name drinks are $10 a pop - ouch!!

I was in Montauk on Thanksgiving day having driven 400 miles to repair a boat. I stopped at the tavern and, although they were officially closed, they let me in and served me a Guiness and showed me a friendly face on a day I would have normally been with my family. Needless to say it was a port in the storm. The day was rotten with rain and wind and most of the town was shut down. Sitting at a bar and reading a local paper with the background chatter of people who cared about one another made my day.

They did not serve me food but they sure showed me what an old fashioned saloon does for a small town.

Be sure to look for Peter Beard's photos of Jackie and Mick on the back wall. Apparently he lives near by on the ocean. The walls are covered with photos done by less famous folks but the pictures add charcter and history to the place.

If your looking for a bistro there are plenty of upscale places to spend your money, but if you want to talk with a local fireman, sailor or nurse head for this place.

By far the worst (and most overpriced) food ($25 for a plate of overcooked pasta in a thin and watery sauce with like 3 shrimp in it!) we've ever tasted. Service - non-existent. The whole place is an old dump, tables almost falling apart. Also, a party of 5 seated next to us cursing at the top of their lungs all night (already drunk from waiting at the bar for a table), management ignored the fact that they were bothering everyone in the restaurant. Never again!

The location was great.. a few minutes walk to the hotel. We ate in the bar which was entertaining, however, there was an option to eat in the dining room. The seafood tasted fresh and had very big portions..we were not able to finish our food!! Overall, a nice place to eat on main street,
