My wife and I spent three nights at Nikos Villas. We did our homework on Santorini but we planned our trip late and a number of hotels we wanted to stay at were sold out. Our travel agent suugested Nikos Villas because of the views and we decided to give it a try. It is important for anyone who plans to stay at Nikos Villas that you should know that NIkos Villas is not a hotel. It is really like a Bed and Breakfast. They serve breakfast from 8-10 but otherwise they do not offer any other services.
When you arrive you are dropped off at the side of the road and follow a path to Nikos Villas. We had some trepidation as we walked down the path and wheeled our bags into the check-in area. Nikos was not there when we checked in and the women who was there spoke broken English. She told us we were being upgraded as we checked in and my wife and I were hopeful that we were getting the room with a view that we were promised as we walked to our room.
The Room: We paid for a superior room but ended up getting upgraded to a suite. The room was spacious with a very large balcony. We had an excellent view of the Caldera and nice chairs on our balcony. The bedroom was fine and we had a queen side bed. Otherwise, the other rooms were dark and there were not enough windows, The furniture is old and not that comfortable. It is not luxurious. You have the ability to open your windows but if you do you end up closing them because there are an abundence of cats that will jump throught the window if you leave them open. The rooms are definitely not luxurious and in need of being modernized.
The Pool and Grounds: There is a nice sized pool at Nikos Villas with great views. The pool is not heated and was pretty cold. There are a few lounge chairs (but there are no cushions) and the chairs are very hard wooden deck chairs. If you plan on staying here you should consider bringing cushions otherwise you end up lying on a hard wooden chair. There was no drink service at the pool as promised because the person doing this was away.
Nikos: Nikos is a gruff guy who can be friendly but also difficult to deal with. Language can sometimes be an issue. While Nikos tries to be helpful and can give you some good restautant recommendations, I would not rely on him to help you make your plans while on the island. It's hard to rely on him to get you a cab for the time you want and you may not get what you are looking for.
Taxi's: Be careful if you are going to take taxi's around the islands. Always confirm the prices before you go anywhere. Also, be aware that taxi drivers will pick up additional fares and charge each of you the same price. On two occasions taxi drivers tried to charge us more then what Nicos told us it would cost and we simply refused. Unfrotunately these incidents can make parts of your trip unpleasant. Also, people in Santorini are on island time. You will have to flexible and leave extra time when you are trying to get to your destination.
Overall: Nikos Villas is in a beautiful part of OIA. The views are great and the rooms are adequate. It is not a modern or luxurious place and not a hotel. If you want to stay in OIA and are not concerned about having a modern room or hotel service then this is a good place for you.
