We saw the hotel thru a webb site from Ixtapa/Zoowa. Since we were picking our car up on the coast, E-Mailed Michelle for driving instructions. Her instructions were perfect for someone who had never been to Patzcuaro before. They had changed the exit and you could make a left where before you could not when exiting the toll road from the Pacific Coast. We took the wrong road into town per Michelle's instruction. After driving around the Centro part of town, stopped at a hotel off the main square- language problems. Showing me a map, continue on this street to a light and turn left and next light turn right. When we turned off the main highway onto a cobble stone going up a hill and going around a church- we thought we were lost. All of a sudden, is the number we were looking for, When you go thru the gate, the view of the Patzcuaro Lake and island is spectacular. We had a 1bedroom with a king bed. There was a pourch just outside of the bedroom facing the lake. We really enjoyed the 3 nights sitting on the pourch having good conversations with friends we made and watching it get dark. We took an all day tour Thursday making 3 different stops: first wood carvings ( my wife bought a Madonna), the 2nd- making hats and other items out of strips of palms weaved together (wife bought a purse) and 3rd village was where they use reeds from the lake. On the way back, stopped at a German Restrauant known for their lake trout.
On Friday, did a half day tour to the town known for the sound of hummingbirds and a artisan known for his pottery making. The town has ruins from a cilivlation destroyed by the Spaniards.
Michelle made our trip to Patzcuaro very worth while being both a hostess and tour guide for the tours that we made and our stay at the Econ Hotel and it's view make us want to go back as soon as we can.
