Don't be fooled by the immediate surroundings of this hotel- it's right off a freeway ramp and across the street from a Subway sandwich shop. Trust me: take a walk down 23rd going backwards in the alphabet (Vaughan, Thurman, Savier, Raleigh, etc.) and you'll discover a hip main drag of boutiques, brewpubs, gelato, and more! Lots of dinner options, from crepes to pub food, plus there's a Kiehl's and a Lush store on opposite sides of the street! I'd stay here again just to be in this location again. The hotel itself was fine; quiet, free parking, free breakfast 6:30-9:30 (eggs, toast, croissants, danishes, bananas/apples, cereal, etc). But oh, the shopping! No sales tax! Microbrews! What more could you ask for?

Paid over $150 for a room in the "new" Crowne Plaza/Holiday Inn. The Holiday Inn Portland is being converted to a Crowne Plaza. We're in the new Crowne Plaza section paying $150. They did not even bother to clean our room today. When we complained they falsely accused us of putting the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door all day. Then asked us what we wanted done....uh we want what we're paying a small fortune for that's what! So finally they grudgingly did a halfway job of straightening the room. When we got back up to the room, they had managed to lock us out by setting the metal swing arm lock. I didn't even know you could do that from outside the room but the maid managed to do it. So we cooled our heels for another long wait while someone figured out how to get the lock opened. If you stay here you're in for a lot of grief. The front desk could not have been less concerned with this mess. NEVER AGAIN!

We have stayed at this hotel several times and recommend it for its high quality rooms, service, and location. It is a real bargain and close to almost everything.

Stayed at plenty of holiday inn express hotels before, but this one was above the rest. It was very well decorated and clean. Rooms were very nice for the price paid and the staff was very helpful. Lots of little restuarants within walking distance, but ask for a map from the front desk before venturing out becasue most of the restuarants are small and do not have large advertising or signs. It is a very nice neighborhood and well worth exploring this area. I only spent one night. I wish I could have spent more time in beautiful Portland.


Only compliant I could possibly come up with is that they ran out of coffee in the morning and it took a while before another pot was available. Hardly a major issue though.
