“What a dump!”

Shilo Inn Eugene Springfield

1 of 5 stars
Phoenix, AZ
Oct 16, 2007

This place is a dump! I stayed one night as all the rooms in Eugene/Springfield sold out because of football game. They still use metal keys a very unsafe practice. There cannot be a blub over 40 watts in the room, I could not read anything. The room I had (174) had a TV at a right angle to the bed, you could not lay in the bed and watch TV, and the TV could not be moved.. the phone is on the desk, you have to get up to answer it. The halls are dark and smell. They make you sign a release if you smoke there is a charge, but the blanket had a large cigrette burn on it. The front desk was rude and very unhelpful, they had 3 people at the desk, but could only check in one person at at time? DO not try to check in at 3:45, (check in is at 4:00pm) I was rudely informed check in was at 4. Stay anywhere else! I wil not tell you how much this dump cost, but it was over 100 dollars!

“Not the worst I've stayed in”

The Shilo is one of the few choices in the Eugene/Springfield area between the expensive full service hotels and the college town "hot sheet" motels. The hotel is older but the rooms are clean and fresh, the bathroom was pretty big and newly renovated and the bathtub is huge. The room's age is also evidenced by the lack of outlet for plugging in my laptop or phone charger, I had to reach behind the wall unit to access an open outlet and run the cord across the front of the TV. The desk staff is very friendly and helpful, as were the other employees, it had the feel of a family resort, not a motel chain. The outside of the motel is very clean with fresh paint and the outdoor pool is fenced in for privacy.

The interior hallways are long and while not being dark, they are not adequately lit either. The lack of an elevator was a minor inconvenience because I was just traveling with a carry on, those with luggage or kids should request a first floor room when making reservations.

There are lots of restaurants/fast food within walking distance and there is a sports bar and a family restaurant attached to the motel.

Beside the dark inside corridors, and inadequate access to electrical outlets, the biggest draw back was that my room was located right near the laundry/garbage room. Not only was the smell not appealing, but the carpet around the room was stained and had an unpleasant odor as well.

I would probably stay here again since the rooms were nice inside and the staff was more than nice, but I would request a room away from the laundry room.

“Older, but a good value and a good experience”

My husband and I stay a night or two in the Eugene area about five times a year. We used to stay at the Best Western Grand Manor, but the price kept going up, the service kept going down, and the towels kept getting thinner and thinner. This time we tried the Shiloh Inn.

Yes, this is definitely an older property. The lobby was small but tidy, and the clerk efficient and welcoming. As we entered our section of the motel, we were a bit put off by the musty smell in the hallway, which is long and quite dark. However, our room was sparkling clean, with modern light furniture, a huge window and a very efficient air conditioner.

We opted for a king kitchenette suite, and it was extremely spacious with a full kitchen, couch, dining table & chairs, desk, WI-FI, flat-screen TV and very good firm bed. The bedspread was clean & fresh. The tub and bathroom sink areas were new, as was the kitchen. The toilet does need to be replaced, but it seemed to be the only sign of anything worn. Our price was $80 with AARP.

This is an area with about eight big-name hotels, so there are a lot of dining choices within an easy walk, everything from Jack-in-the-Box to Outback. We chose China Sun, which has a fantastic buffet including mongolian grill.

The Shiloh breakfast was the expanded Continental with very fresh pastries, muffins,Yoplait yogurt, make-your-own waffles, juice, etc. The breakfast room is quite small, so if they were very busy, it would be fairly congested.

Yes, as one reviewer mentioned, they have old fashioned room keys. (Just as all hotels used to have!) Our room locked just fine. We did not hear any noise from the hallway or from adjoining rooms. I think the northern end of the long building is somewhat newer. They do need to replace or patch repair the hallway carpet, and should repaint the dark red walls with something much lighter and cheerier!

I peeked in a regular room, which was not huge, but had adequate space with modern light furniture. I believe the non-kitchenette price is about $70.

We were satisfied with this motel at the price, and will stay here again in the future.

“Wouldn't stay here again”

Poorly maintained motel. Our toliet ran and made very loud noises all night.

No point in having free wi-fi if there isn't a place to plug in your laptop without unpluging the bed lamps. No plug in near the tiny desk either.

Halls reeked of smoke and very dark.

“Very Good Value”

Shilo Inn Eugene Springfield

Stayed here January 2007 for three nights at about $65/night.
This is an older motel property and not a luxury hotel. With that said, it exceeded my expectations because the room and common areas were clean and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful.

The furniture is dated, but the paint, carpet, bathroom tile, bedding, and wall art are new. Convenient to major roads, shopping and restaurants, although it's difficult sometimes to exit left out of the property because of much traffic. The lobby/reception doubles as the breakfast area, which is not quiet and peaceful, but the breakfast spread is more than sufficient. If you want more choices for breakfast, there's an attached restaurant.

Service was great. One of the evenings I went to the front desk to request that an annoying flickering fluorescent lightbulb be changed, and the response was so quick that when I walked back to my room, the houseperson came onto the the floor down the hall ahead of me. Staff was personable and helpful. I would stay here again. Very good value, but not for those looking for elegance and luxury.
