This was our third visit to the Manor House Hotel and each time just gets better and better!! The service was faultless and the room that we had in the mews cottages was stunning. I would recommend the Dolittle suite with a beautiful four poster bed and the most amazing bathroom with a twin showers at £400.00 it is a real treat but they do also have special offers on their own website www.exclusivehotels.co.uk

We will be back soon!!

“Mostly good!”

The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club

My husband and I have stayed at the Manor House on 2 occasions, last December and July this year, both for 1 night.

The first time, we stayed in one of the cottages, which we loved - great bath! The second time in the main house. Although the bedroom was lovely and large, we preferred the cottage. Cleanliness was a little dubious too - lots of cobwebs - and they weren't empty!

We found dinner to be exceptional both times, although the restaurant was very empty the second time which made the atmosphere a little dreary.

What we found to be really disappointing both times is the service at breakfast. It was slow and unorganised. The waiter apologised to us on our latest stay stating he was having a bad morning and had not had a coffee yet! Not really our problem, especially when you are paying good money to stay there. Puts a bit of a dampener on the end of your stay!

Overall though, a lovely place to stay for a romantic break, especially in the winter. We would stay again but would appreciate it if breakfast service could be improved.

“What a let-down!”

The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club

The drive to the hotel certainly had the wow factor. The Reception, valet and general service were good. The view from our bedroom window in the main house also had the wow factor - and there it ended.

Our room - Fosscote - was, in a word, shabby. The two armchairs had threadbare patches on the arms and across the chair backs. The curtains had linings that were in tatters, with one curtain gradually parting company from the curtain rail as our stay progressed. The courtesy package was stocked with the usual powdered drinks - but where were the complimentary biscuits?

State of the art TV? No, I don't think so - not even Ceefax was obtainable. The kettle had to be placed on the floor in order to boil it, and a fumble in the dark at floor level was needed to connect the hairdryer anywhere near a mirror. The wardrobe was large and incorporated drawers - one without a handle - and all with an inch gap at the front when opened.

The view from the bedroom window was spectacular - looking out over the grounds, but was very close to the steps to the upper gardens, so there was lack of privacy at times. One of the windows had a quarter inch gap when closed.

The 'luxurious' bathroom consisted of the bath, a shower cabinet, toilet, bidet and wash basin - all of which had seen better days. The floor was stained wood with a nail sticking up just where you stepped.

The food, what can I say, was boring and limited. Our four-night stay had us hoping each night for a different menu (or Table d'Hote menu) - but to no avail. If you like orange foam instead of carrots or a green foam trail instead of asparagus, then this is for you - not for us. The breakfasts were very good!

The public rooms and dining room furniture were also shabby. On one occasion I nearly reached floor level sitting in an armchair and for anyone with a mobility problem this could be quite serious.

All in all we were very disappointed and very glad to leave. We thought that the old character of the building seemed to have been used as an excuse for keeping tired furnishings.

The brochure promised many things, such a pity it didn't live up to it.

“Disappointing”

The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club

After reading the reviews and seeing the hotel website we thought this would be an ideal place to stay for our wedding anniversary. We booked a junior suite and were allocated a cottage which was small, very dark and claustrophobic. We asked to be moved to the main building and were put into a much bigger, brighter room, with a bit of a view over the putting green out of one window and overlooked the roof from the other window. We trod bare foot in the bathroom only to find shards of glass on the floor, which due to the pattern on the tiled floor we were not able to see, fortunately we did not cut our feet, but when we told the duty manager, he was not very apologetic. We dined at the golf club, which was very good and the staff were very friendly. However, we found the staff at the hotel not quite 'on the ball' and would certainly not rate it as a top hotel. We don't think it was worth £195 a night and that didn't include the breakfast, which we were not aware of. However, my husband will return to play golf but will probably stay in one of the village inns.
