5 stars - the kids had to be dragged away crying, the wife is already
saving for next year and I felt like I had had a week's break in only
4 nights. Everything that can be done to make harassed parents lives easier on holiday with kids up to about 7 years old has been thought through very well. The niggles are only very minor and do not detract from the huge good points.

The only advice I would give is to avoid the peak periods. We were there last week just before half term and the numbers of other people
in the hotel meant it was just perfect. This week there are twice as many people there and I think that would make it too busy really. The
solution - get your kids out of school before the holidays start for real! Hey, they are only little.

Bedruthan Steps Hotel

From the exterior of the hotel, it looks more like a 1970s office property rather than a contemporary hotel, but step inside and everything changes!

I was overly impressed as to how sumptious the interior of the hotel was - absolute bliss!!! Very clean, very cosmopolitan.

Everyone reviewing here is banging on about it being a family hotel, but I would absolutely say that for a short break, it is more than acceptable for newlyweds to visit!

The hotel is up a hill with views of Bedruthen steps (obviously, hence the name!). We had a walk down to the beach and it is VERY steep and very slippy, so don't wear heeled boots like me!

The bar is lovely, and the barman that served us had an excellent sense of humour, which sometimes lacks these days. The drinks are very pricey, so make sure you rob a bank before you come (£8 for a glass of Pinot!!!). Overall, we spent about £100 on vino alone! (for 2!)

The food is sumptious and gorgeously amazing - stunning gormet style offerings!

Breakfast too was great, although in typical Brit fashion, everyone fights to get at the buffet and forgets to bring their manners with them. Why is that?!!! One area seemed to have kids in, which was fine by me, as we went to the adult area where there wasn't the excessive screaming and running around the breakfast room.

Room was fabulous with quirky little fittings, and the bathroom offered really cute organic soaps that were locally sourced, although you could opt for the usual stuff if required.

Overall a lovely quick break, but very, very, very pricey! One for a treat really :0)

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this wonderful hotel. We have 2 children aged 8 and 11, and they didnt want to come home. This is our 4th visit and we are returning again for the new year celebrations and we have booked for 2009 for 2 weeks. I appreciate we can go abroad for what we paid here but i am so glad we didnt this year, airport delays, excessive heat this year abroad, my friends in Cyprus had to stay indoor during the day and venture out at night! not my idea of a holiday. We had mixed weather and during a particular bad day the hotel putting on skittles in the ballroom area for all the residents to enjoy, and they also put a film on a large wide screen tv in the conference room, they tried there best to keep spirits up and they did a splendid job. We had some fantastic weather also and managed to sit by the pool and also enjoyed a great BBQ. Breakfast excellent, evening meals generally v.good we sometimes struggled to find things we like, i eat very little red meat or fish, and more chicken, the menu was the opposite. food was very good though. The other tiny gripe - price of wine, it really is overpriced, surely they dont need to mark it up this much. Also please please please can people not wear jeans in the restaurant, be designer jeans they are still jeans, and info from the hotel does request no jeans. We where made aware of the pool situation before going, so not a problem, they run a mini bus to it in the rain, only a 4 minutes walk at the most. The only problem we had was childrens tea, my boys really struggled, its great if your child loves pasta and lots of sauce based things, mine dont, they love roast dinners, they only did roast chicken once, which was a real shame. Our apartment suite also wasnt cleaned as well this year as previous years, just a minor detail. Adult evening entertainment, casino - poor, music quiz - great fun, general knowledge quiz - rushed through, did she have a bus to catch? The hotel was full when we stayed, but it never felt full, only at childrens tea and childrens evening entertainment you realised it was. We enjoy our evenings as a couple, dining out and watching the sunset, as it did most nights, and there was never a child running around screaming, all parents seem to want the same experience from there holiday, and this hotel does it so well.

“Fantastic relaxing stay even with children!?!”

Bedruthan Steps Hotel

Aug 14, 2007

it was our first time staying at Bedruthan, so we were novices compared to just about everybody else we met. One family were on their 9th visit! I can certainly see why people do return. This hotel is faultless as regards attention to detail for families. There was so much for our 4 year old to do we didn't even find the sof t play area until the last day! We were very lucky with the weather which helps of course! The beach at Mawgan Porth is just lovely even on a sunny Saturday in August it wasn't too crowded so no need to drive anywhere else. We enjoyed grown-up trips to St Ives & Padstow guilt-free as madam was having such a good time in the penguins club. The food in the hotel was excellent, breakfast was substantial and the evening meals were interesting & well executed. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. When my daughter cut her foot they loaned us a 3 wheeler buggy so we could still access the beach. Only one minor gripe, we had a room at the back of the hotel and though we didn't mind not having a sea view it was very warm in the evenings and at night. Air conditioning would be the only improvement I would make to what is a top hotel in its class!

“Another relaxing holiday with the kids”

Bedruthan Steps Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Hertfordshire
Jul 26, 2007

This was our second stay at Bedruthan in less than a year. Last time we stayed in early September and the hotel was crawling with pre-school children (including ours!). The hotel was busy but there were fewer children which, on balance, made for a better balance and a less chaotic teatime experience… There have been some improvements since our last stay; they no longer allocate one table in the restaurant for the duration of your stay but offer you the best table available each time which saves a week gazing enviously at those with the best window views! Also, we no longer had pre-book a specified “slot” for children’s teas; you just turned up anytime between 4.30-6 pm.

Despite pouring rain every day, we had a very relaxing stay as there is so much to do for the kids in the hotel (huge soft play area, two outside playgrounds, ballroom with trikes, early evening entertainment). We upgraded to a sea view villa suite which had been recently refurbished and was right by the adventure playground. The indoor pool complex is about to be closed for refurbishment until early September although they have acquired a neighbouring hotel with a pool that you can use.

In terms of the food, breakfast was very good with a wide range of options. Dinner was good but I would probably rate only a handful of the dishes as excellent. Also, we found the choice a bit limiting on a few occasions if you didn’t want to pay the additional charge for the “top of the range” option (around £6 for a main course). The service was good with the odd minor hiccup such as serving tea before the dessert but the staff, and particularly the maitre’d, were very helpful. The kids’ tea was absolutely excellent; loads of choice, good quality home-cooked hot dishes and fresh fruit. We had a baby in tow this time and the staff were happy to puree any of the fresh dishes or provide jars of baby food.

We love staying here; the views are stunning, the staff are very helpful and everything you can think of is laid on for the kids which makes for a relaxing holiday. It is expensive but we have found that we haven’t needed to pay to visit lots of local attractions due to the hotel’s facilities. There are loads of lovely beaches in this part of Cornwall and only 10 minutes to Newquay/15 minutes to Padstow. (The local beach is nice but quite a steep 10 minute walk if you are laden with the kids and equipment). It’s one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at with the children although it isn't cheap!
