“Tranquil haven”

I have just returned to London from a 5 day break at the tranquil haven of Trevalsa, outside Mevagissey. What a beautiful hotel! Such care has been taken with the lovingly restored 1930s house and every detail has been thought of. The staff are extremely friendly and professional. They work hard to ensure your stay is perfect. The food is out of this world, with exciting starters and beautifully cooked local fish. The location lends itself to peaceful days relaxing in the grounds or a short coastal walk into Mevagissey.
If you are going to Cornwall don't miss this!
I will certainly be going back as soon as possible.
Thank you to Matthew and all the team.

I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in West Cornwall. It is ideal for visiting Heligan or the Eden Project.
The setting is ideal, with most rooms overlooking the sea, the Coastal Path at the end of the garden, and right next to a small (mostly sandy) cove.
The hotel is very comfortable, beautifully decorated, and spotless. Staff are professional, helpful, and attentive, and most definitley not "strange", as a previous reviewer stated.
Food is superb, and in my opinion better than Rick Stein's Bistro, where we ate the night before arriving.
Altogether, a most enjoyable stay.

Great location. Lovely rooms. Only had one dinner and we were dissapointed.Slow service (Saturday night) and food average. Breakfast; slow service most days and the food poor. Bacon kept in oven and eggs plastic. Tomatoes were chopped and boiled. Only slightly better than Happy Eater! Staff were attentive but "strange". When we asked for the umbrellas to be put up on the terrace tables (weather was very hot and sunny) we were told they were all broken!! Would we stay there again-no,which is a pity as location is great.

Dear Tripadviser Member from London, Dear All

Just to say a few words replying the last comment about us on Tripadviser.
Yes, our place is lovely. It is true; it is not just the location. We have tried to create a unique ambience. Cosy, a bit luxurious, we have original features teamed with a mixture of antique and contemporary furnishings.

Our demands do not stop in front of the kitchen. Our chief is possibly the most fussiest of us, everything has to be done a la minute and in a pan. Our soups and sauces have to be frothiness to support the taste. That takes more time and explains the “slow service”. Most of our guests are happy with waiting a bit longer and enjoy the dinner. - Our chief has been with us since the beginning of April, we never had before in our guestbook so many fantastic comments about our food.
Also the breakfast is cooked on order, so sometimes, when everybody arrives in the morning at the same time, it may take to get your warm breakfast. You may use in between our continental buffet which offers fresh fruit salad, cereals, yoghurt and more (of course we would be faster with bacon kept in the oven). The bacon we do is from the Cornish Bacon Company, and plastic eggs are locally free ranged ones, our supplier is called From Plough to Plate. The tomatoes we serve are chopped (is that wrong?) and butter pan fried.

At last about the umbrellas. The umbrellas we have are broken indeed.
Our terrace faces and is overlooking the sea. It is in a pole position to get gale force winds. The gales sometimes arrive from one minute to the next. Everybody knows that who lives by the sea. After a second umbrella was broken by the wind, we decided as a safety precaution not to use them.
I guess that was explained wrong and therefore I do apologize.
Are we strange? Find out!

My husband and I recently spent three nights at Trevalsa and thought it was quite lovely. Nice clean room (and rather large bathroom) and a fantastic view of the sea! Make sure you go down to the beach, the water is so clear it will take your breath away.

Breakfasts were cooked to order and the staff was more than happy to assist with driving directions and even allowed us to check and send an e-mail or two while we were there. The only downside was the very loud sea gulls at dawn, which is a very foreign sound to folks from the Midwest!

Mevagissey is a very pretty little town, we were there during "Feast Week", so got a chance to experience bands in the harbor and a little bit of action for what I suspect is normally a quiet place. Also a good base to explore Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project and our favorite surprise, Lanhydrock. I could have spent many more days in this location and found plenty to see.
