“Great restaurant”

Six Penn

Aug 15, 2008

We stayed at the Rennaissance for a couple of nights. This hotel is right near Six Penn. We went the first night and loved it. The second night we looked around for a good restaurant at around 8:30 and none looked as appealing as Six Penn so we went back! The second night was just as good as the first. Don't hesitate - you won't be disappointed.

“Great Food, Excellent Service”

Six Penn

Feb 19, 2008

On our recent trip to Pittsburgh we enjoyed two meals at this great restaurant.

We stopped in on a Saturday night and were seated quickly, even though we didn't have reservations. We were immediately greeted by a staff member that brought us water and told us the specials.

Our waiter was over just a minute later and went over the specials again and made recommendations. My husband ordered the pork chops and I ordered the venison special. We also ordered a wedge salad to share. We received the salad quickly and the lettuce was fresh and the blue cheese seemed to be homemade.

Our entrees were excellent, his pork chops being a large, on the bone "rack" of chops that had excellent flavor. They were served with polenta and everything was great.

My venison, both osso bucco and a filet were wonderful.

Although we opted not to have desert, we were not rushed out of our seats and enjoyed the rest of our drinks.

After such a good dinner we decided to go for Brunch on Sunday. The brunch menu was varied and we decided on a Meatloaf "mush" and the frittata. Both meals were great and the service was equally has quick and courteous the second time around.

This is definitely a must try if you are in the downtown Pittsburgh area.

While it has a nice atmosphere and is convenient, they really over season the food and dont have much of a selection.

“Terrible Service, Terrible Food, Terrible Experience”

A group co-workers and I arrived for some drinks and then dinner. We had dinner reservations at 6:30, but arrived around 5:15. We checked in with the hostess to alert them that we were here, but would be hanging out in the bar until time to eat. We were given a look like 'yeah, so'?. We were initially promptly greeted by a server in the bar area who took our first drink orders. After that, we never saw her again - only after frantically waving our arms and making a fuss could we get her attention to order another round of drinks. She seemed very annoyed at us when we were waving - as if it were OUR fault that we needed more drinks. I felt as if we were inconveniencing her. When our table was ready, the hostess approached us to tell us our table was ready - with an attitude of course. We could not locate our server to pay our bar tab, so we had to individually pay at the bar. After being seated at our table, our waitress took our drink orders. My friend's boyfriend ordered a vodka martini but was brought a gin martini. After only returning to our table after we had to literally YELL to get her attention, she was very agitated that he had the wrong drink. She begrudgingly went to the bar and took 20 minutes to returm with the proper drink. After that, we ordered appetizers - cornbread, mac n' cheese, calamari. Everything was decent except the cornbread. it was AWFUL. After placing our entree orders, we patiently waited for their arrival. We of course had NO drink service during this wait. People were drinking the ice out of the bottoms of their glasses. When our meals arrived they weren't even hot. Two people had ordered a fliet mignon - which resembled a piece of beef that had been run over by a car. It tasted like a charcoal brick. The filet came with a scallop, but my friend's was missing when the meal was initially served. She pointed this out and (not even kidding here) they returned with a scallop on a plate by itself (cold) and said that it had fallen off the plate while they were carrying it out and the busboy found it. We were hoping beyond hope that this was a new scallop, but since it was cold, we didn't think so. I ordered a pizza (how hard is that?) - I ordered it without tomatoes, but it was delivered with all tomatoes intact. Not a big deal, but combine that with the numerous other thiings that went wrong and it turned out to be an awful experienced. The food was terrible and overpriced, the service awful, and the wait-staff had an arrogant attitude. STAY AWAY.

“Eat'n Park Mentality”

Don't waste your time at this absolute disaster of a restaurant. I went to dinner there about a month after they first opened and was terribly disappointed with the service, the food and the general attitude of the entire staff. I hoped this was only because they were new because this could be such a good spot; great location and a roof deck. My wife and I went again for lunch last week and were met with a level of apathy surpassed only by USAirways. After being scolded for asking if there was table available for lunch on the roof (they don't serve food on the roof!) we waited for over 5 minutes for them to clear off a table in a restaurant that only had three tables occupied. When I asked the hostess for some assistance, I received a condescending look and remark. That was enough. We left and will never waste our time here again.
