My two girlfriends and I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in January 2006 for a long weekend. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we left home late and didn't arrive at the hotel until around midnight Friday night. I had called ahead of time, though, to make sure we had a late check in.
Our check in was smooth, and we promptly went to bed. However, it became obvious very quickly that one of my girlfriends had a terrible snoring problem! We were unaware of this problem prior to planning the trip. I was completely unable to go to sleep after working all day and driving for 3 hours. These were some serious, wall rattling snores!
About 2:00 am, I decided I had to do something. I was so exhausted. I went down to the front desk, explained my problem, and inquired if there was a drugstore or something nearby where I could get some earplugs. He said there was a Walmart a couple of miles away, but he didn't think they were open 24 hours. I asked if they had earplugs in their little pantry, but they did not.
Finally, I asked if they had another room available that I could take. I said it didn't matter to me what floor it was on, what kind of beds or if it was smoking or non smoking. The night clerk found a room for me just a couple of doors down from my original room. He even walked me up to the door and made sure I got in OK. (I think I must've looked really pitiful!) I was able to get about 4 hours of sleep. (Unfortunately, the previous guest in that room had not turned off the alarm clock, so I got an unexpectedly loud 6:00 am wake up! LOL!)
The next morning, I went downstairs about 9:00 to return the room key and thank the clerk for his help. He was off duty, but I did mention his help to the current clerk as I checked out of that extra room. I fully expected to have my credit card charged for the full amount of the room, but lo and behold, when I got my bill, they didn't charge me a dime. I found that to be a refreshing display of customer concern and service. They had every right to charge me something for the 7 hours the room was in my name, and I feel sure that another hotel probably would've charged for a full night's stay. I wrote a letter commending this hotel and that night clerk for their customer service, and I will be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in the future whenever I can.
As for the room, it was big enough for the three of us. We had a handicap accessible bathroom, so I can't vouch for the size of the regular bathrooms. But the room was quiet (outside of the snoring, LOL), clean and didn't smell like smoke or anything.
Overall, a great experience. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend!
