“They Made My Baby Sleep On The Floor And Threw My Glasses Away!!!”

Wingate Inn Irving / DFW / Airport

1 of 5 stars
San Antonio
Jul 1, 2008

I wouldn't even give this hotel a one star. What started out as a cheap hotel stay ended up costing me over $300.

I travel pretty often, and I can honestly say that I have never hated a hotel stay until now. I hate this hotel. It was bad from the second I got there. We checked in and got to our room. There was no baby crib. Which was ordered twice, and my mother verified the day before while she was staying there to make sure there was one. We called the front desk and we were told we didn't order one and that housekeeping was closed. We have a 9 month old that is crawling and we were told sorry out of luck. Our baby had to sleep on the FLOOR!!! We didn't even have extra sheets or blankets to make a pallet. We used the towels from the bathroom. To block his area off so he didn't stick his fingers in the plugs while we were sleeping, we had to turn the chair in the room on its side and stuff out luggage around it. We couldn't just let him sleep in our bed because he wouldn't sleep. We tried and that left the result of our baby not sleeping until 12am when he normally sleeps at 8om. This alone is reason enough to leave a bad review, but it gets worse. On our way back from our trip, our pick up shuttle left us at the airport for a over an hour. We had to call three times and each time we were told he was coming. Its a 5 minute drive from the hotel. When he got there, he didn't even apologize, and he hadn't been busy picking anyone else up yet, because the van was empty. He picked everyone else up after us. I think he was just self absorbed with the basketball game that he was listening to and didn't want to leave. When we get back to the hotel I had hoped to pick up my glasses and shorts that I had left there. I called 20 minutes after I left the hotel from the airport on the 8th and informed the front desk that I left them on the bathroom counter and gave them my room number. They informed me that they would keep them for me. I get to the hotel after my ridiculous shuttle wait and ask about them. The man at the front desk told me that I would have to come back later because housekeeping was closed and they were open M-F 8am-4pm. I was so mad. By that time, I was two hours later than I should have been arriving at the hotel. I had a 2 hours drive back to my mothers house because I live in San Antonio, TX and they tell me I can't even check to see if my glasses were held!!! So that meant, if they were there I would have to go out of my way AGAIN to go get them. So I called the hotel on June 16th and spoke to housekeeping. They didn't have my glasses. I am now more mad than ever because I know that exactly where I left my $200 glasses and a brand new pair of shorts. In my room on the bathroom counter. I called to tell them that I will be back to pick them up. The man and the front desk said he would alert housekeeping and they would be held. AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE THEM!!!!! Imagine that, after all that I had to deal with, this just topped it off.

“Ok stay, not great”

Wingate Inn Irving / DFW / Airport

2 of 5 stars
Glenwood Springs, CO
Mar 10, 2008

We've stayed at this hotel before over the past few years and it was ok, not great. I am a light sleeper so I always ask for a room away from the road and as far from other guests as possible. Our check in was swift, beds comfortable and clean as far as I could tell. Other reviews mention the noisy fan in the bathroom and that was annoying. I also had to move the lamp closer to the bed to read but that's minor. The breakfast was just ok. The eggs were extremely salty and the sausage not great. I stuck with cereal after that. We asked for a cab to "restaurant row" and it was $30 total to the Outback. The shuttle to and from the airport was prompt and efficient. So not a fancy hotel but it worked for us. There is a lot of remodeling going on but that didn't affect us. Also, I did hear someone having a business conversation over the phone when I walked by a closed door but again, it wasn't near us. My husband said he heard people walking above us while he was trying to work. We didn't use the exercise room this time but have in the past and it's not been an issue. So it's adequate, nothing fancy. It did seem more run down than in past years. Oh, and the towels were really thin compare to the Holiday Inn Express we stayed in the next night in Decatur.

“This hotel and Hotwire...horrible experience!”

Wingate Inn Irving / DFW / Airport

1 of 5 stars
Athens, Texas
Feb 6, 2008

To begin with, I booked this hotel thru Hotwire. I originally chose a 2.5 star hotel, but was given one rated as a 2 star on their hotel rating guide! I told them I wasn't trying to cancel, just get the hotel rating I chose. Well they didn't have any other 2.5 available but they had a 3 star for double the price. I figured it was still a fairly good bargain and okayed it.
The Hotel I got was the Wingate by Wyndham in Irving, Texas. Not to be confused at all with the the Wyndham in Irving. It was 3 hotels down from the original 2 star I had been given.
The room was spacious, and the check in staff was friendly. I thought this might turn out okay, but then I looked closer. There was a crusty (foodlike?) substance on the bedskirt. The blanket had cigarett burns in it. The bathroom door had chips and missing paint on the inside and speaking of the bathroom, it was tiny and very plain. Now it gets crazy. I plugged my charger into the lamp outlet, and charged my phone all nite. The next morning I grab it and go. I left my charger plugged into the lamp.
I get back that evening and my charger won't plug into my phone. I take a look and it is not even my charger! It has been switched! My husband thought maybe the maid had been charging her own phone, and took the wrong charger. I went to the front desk, but was told I would have to wait til morning to talk to housekeeping, but that another guest ALSO had a missing charger so maybe I had his (!). She called his room, but it wasn't his. The next morning housekeeping said they didn't have it, but I could look thru their big box of chargers people left. Gee thanks. it was not there. This was Sunday and the manager was not there. The clerk wrote everything down, took my number, and said she would have the mgr call. Have not heard a thing. While I was at the desk waiting to be checked out...a gentleman came to the desk with a list of things he wanted fixed in his room before he returned that evening. OH...did I mention also that the hot tub and fitness room were both shut down for repair? This is probably the worst overall experience I have ever had with booking and with a hotel. I will not stay at another Wingate and I absolutely will never use Hotwire again.

“disappointed”

Wingate Inn Irving / DFW / Airport

My son and I went on a business trip with my husband thinking that we would have a good time hanging out in the indoor spa and weight room, but they are closed down due to repairs. It doesn't look like they will be operational any time soon. Other than that, they have a nice breakfast, big rooms, and a really nice and helpful staff. They have great coffee too. The pool was working and was beautiful, but it is too cold to swim outside. I would be singing their praises if the spa and weight room were operational. That is very disappointing.

“Not worth the price”

Wingate Inn Irving / DFW / Airport

2 of 5 stars
Arlington Heights, Illinois
Sep 15, 2007

The room was about the same as you would get at a 1 or 2 star motel for a lot less money. I was really looking forward to laying out by the pool. However, there were no lounge chairs. The pool was small and extremely dirty. It had a ring around the base where the floor meets the sides. The water was also very cloudy. I expected a much nicer hotel for the price. I would not recommend this hotel, nor will I ever stay there again during my frequent visits to the Dallas area.
