“We stay at the Goldener Hirsch Every Year”

We just got back to Australia ("the land down under") from our annual pilgrimage to the Goldener Hirsch Inn. As usual, we had a wonderful stay: the staff are courteous and will help with any requirements. The property is ideally situated at Silver Lake Village which is in the center of Deer Valley Ski Resort. This avoids the congestion of the lower altitude Snow Park Village. The Hotel is comfortable with adequate heating and many wood burning fireplaces including one in our suite. The decor is European with authentic traditional furniture. There are a dozen excellent restaurants withing walking distance from the hotel. We mainly dined at the hotel's restaurant. We met many guests at the restaurant who came from all over the Park City area to dine and enjoy apres ski at the Goldener Hirsch Inn. For convenience there is a heated parking deck and we never had trouble driving our two-wheel-drive Hertz Ford Taurus up and down the mountain to the hotels 8100" elevation; there does not seem to be any shortage of salt to put on the roads in the Salt Lake City area to keep them free of snow and ice. We have reserved a room for 2008 and we are confident it will be great stay. Should there be any problems, we know the hotel's management wil be very quick to sort them out for us.

We had a fantastic stay at this Hotel. Very upscale and very attentive service by everyone working there. Beautiful rooms with the Austrian decor, upgraded bath rooms, great robes and slippers - we couldn't have been happier. Small and intimate with only 20 rooms.

Excellent restaurant with a large european breakfast with fresh waffles & omelets. Outstanding lunch and dinner. Loved the Swiss Cheese Fondue.

The hotel is right next to the chair lift for skiing so we could come back for lunch daily.

The staff knows your name and will do anything to make your stay the best. We will return. It feels like being in Europe with their 5-Star service.

“Stay far, far away... this hotel has gone from great to abysmal”

Goldener Hirsch Inn

I'll start off by saying I fully agree with the previous reviews of this hotel.... during that time. I've been going to this hotel for many years to ski Deer Valley, and it's always been a great place due to its perfect location to the slope. Now.... it's not even the same hotel.
Where do I even start in describing this experience?

The current management is completely unresponsive to their customers; when we first arrived we couldn't even find a guest services person to help us with our bags.

The elevator since we've arrived smells of either mold, or something else horrible. During our whole stay, it didn’t change.

The breakfast service is now abysmal. What used to be a very nice deal before going out to ski is now worse than a breakfast bar. No one is around to even give you water (which naturally, isn’t available to serve yourself) and each day I went down, the coffee canisters were out.

The current management is also visibly unethical- we had booked our own driver to take us to the airport. Upon getting picked up at the hotel, we soon learned that someone at the hotel received a kickback for referring us to a different company. (The company they used, which showed up 10 minutes before our driver arrived at the hotel, kept breaking down just in the few blocks as we drove away from the hotel!)

The final straw came about when we came back to our room after a day of skiing; we found our door wide open, propped by a towel that was left there by housekeeping.

If at all possible, stay anywhere else but here. For the amount of money you have to pay for a room here, it’s unbelievable how things are. I would stay at a discount chain hotel a half hour away from this location rather than ever staying here again. If you’re looking for a hotel that values their customers and provides quality for the price, check out the stein right next door.

“No A/C + Sweltering Heat = Not Worth it!”

My fiance and I stayed at the Goldener Hirsch in late July. Daytime temps were in ths mid 90's and the entire hotel is without air conditioning. While the rooms were beautiful and otherwise comfortable, the heat was nearly unbearable. All we were provided to combat the sweaty nights was a beat-up fan that did little to cool us off. Our experience here was terrible as a result. It's really too bad, beacuse if the room was cool, this would have been an amazing hotel at an reasonable price.

For literally $25 more per night, our friends stayed at the incredible Stein Erickson next door. Not only were the rooms gorgeous, but they also had air conditioning and thus, were quite comfortable.

Although the room we stayed in was reasonably-priced, it still was quite a bit of money for us to spend and I feel every penny was wasted. I spent many sweaty, sleepless hours cursing the hotel for not disclosing their lack of A/C earlier. In a city that clearly heats up, they need to do a MUCH better job creating a comfortable room for their guests. Seriously, even a Motel 6 has Air Conditioning.

My recommendation - stay here in the cooler months and you'll love it! But, avoid it at all costs in the summer. It's not worth the money.

We had an excellent experience at this inn. It had a great feel- very friendly employees, warm decor (Austrian), newly upgraded bathrooms, yummy beers, great apres ski food and entertainment, great breakfast included in the room rate, great restaurant, easy ski rental/storage and close proximity to the mid-mtn lift. We'd definitely go back in a heart beat.
