Visiting a small town where your family originally came from can make a person nervous. Arriving and finding a gorgeous city, filled with warm, wonderful people is a fantastic experience. This was what we discovered in Sciacca, Sicily. My wife, son and I fit in perfectly as our lives revolve around family and being real. Our nightly walks in the gorgeous piazza overlooking the port can not be expressed accurately in words. The locals were amazingly kind and accepting when we spoke our equivalent to third grade Italian. We absolutely loved walking the streets, finding authentic local pizzerias, having a glass or three of red wine and walking home while looking at the phenomenal view of the ocean and lights below the piazza. I cannot say enough about the beauty and simplicity of this town. Enjoying our cannoli from the Bar Olympia while we walked as a family will forever be in my mind. This town has many surprises if you are willing to walk and discover the mix of ancient and new. I can't wait to return.
