ON 8-4-08 I had combination 8, chicken enchilada, spanish rice and tamale, and when I recieved my meal the food tasted bland, no flavor, the tamale was like eating masa (dough) and the chicken was hard to chew, the rice was bland and the worst part was when I asked for hot salsa, being latino, they gave me mole with chocolate not really mixed, I would have to say being a traditional mexicana I would not eat here because of no flavor and to me this place was not authentic, nice name but the food is horrible, I have had so much better, if you want bland food, masa tamale not cooked and hard meat with no taste even with salt then eat here, I personally think that for the price I could of gone to Taco Bell and at least the hot sauce would of been hot!

If you eat at any of the various Mexican restaurants throughout Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Newport News, you'll find that they all have fast service and the same tasting food. Mi Hogar is a nice place to eat, and I've been here more than once. Prices are good too, but it doesn't stand out from any of the other Mexican restaurants in the area.

My husband and I read that this place was rated as a Hampton Roads Favorite. On our way to a concert down in Norfolk we stopped in. This was NOT what I expected and not in a good way. Whoever claims that this place is one of the best in Hampton Roads has no taste. We were once again disappointed by another Mexican restaurant catering to the bland tastes of Virginians and Southerners in gerneral. The usual white cheese was used on everything and when I asked if they had shredded beef instead of ground beef they looked at me like I was crazy. The enchiladas were dry and each dish lacked any form of vegetable color which is usually to be expected with a traditional Mexican dish. The service was fast but that was about the only good thing I can say about this place, sorry Mi Hogar, why don't you cook your food like they do in California?
