“Great location”

Hotel Dom Pedro Baia Club

Never been to Madeira before so did not know what to expect but they all told me that it was lovely and they were right. The hotel was very good and only 5-10 minutes from airport and set in a lovely bay. It isn't touristy but you have all you need, especially if you are going for the all inclusive as we did. The pool was great and the entertainment was more than we expected. We would certainly go back and we are looking to next year without a doubt but we only had one week and now we want two. Get a taxi driver to take you round the island a cheaper and better way, there are loads of them around and our 2.5 days only cost us £30 each and there was 4 of us.

“Very Efficiently Run Hotel”

Hotel Dom Pedro Baia Club

he staff at this hotel are hardworking and efficient. I would especially like to compliment the restaurant staff, who although in common with most Madeiran locals are serious people, they are very courteous and speak very good english. They must have a sense of humour but do not seem to smile a lot.

We stayed on an "all inclusive" basis and had a good variety of meals and drinks and snacks were available all day. They will also provide basic picnics if you are out all day on trips etc.

The hotel itself is looking a bit tired and is in need of a makeover. However, its clean and tidy.

My only criticism is the lack of air conditioning in our room. However, they did supply us with a fan upon request. Having said that Madeira has a variable climate with temperatures at a maximim of around 28 degrees, so it wasn't too hot.

We've stayed at this hotel twice on successive years in August and have had a very enjoyable time. I would recommend this hotel in Machico bay for the peace and quiet, apart from the occasional noise from planes taking off at the nearby airport just around the bay from Machico. However, this is only a minor point as it didn't bother us at all during our stay.

Machico is a small bay around which the Dom Pedro is the only hotel. There is a small curved pebbled beach which slopes down to dark sand at the waters edge. It is no where near as big or as busy as Funchal, being the province of a local community. However, it is quieter than Funchal.

I can’t relate to the less positive reviews here, as we had an excellent stay in the hotel and a jolly good time in the Island.
The staff was quite friendly and helpful, and the food was bountiful and very good – the best I ever had in a hotel, actually.
Would definitely stay there again.

“Disappointed”

Hotel Dom Pedro Baia Club

I was disappointed to find that the hotel did not have air conditioning. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. No fridge. No hairdryer. I had not been advised of this by the travel agent. I had a fairly good view but the noise from the planes taking off from the nearby aiport commenced at just after 6am each morning. The food was fairly good. The swimming pool was so cold that very few people ventured in to it. The staff were not really that friendly with the exception of 2 waiters in the dining room. Overall I was not happy with my visit and would not recommend it to anyone else. Smoking was allowed in the dining room even though it was in a segregated area you could still smell the smoke in the atmosphere.

“ignore the bad reviews”

Hotel Dom Pedro Baia Club

Before going on holiday to stay in this hotel I was a bit wary as half of the reviews were good and the other half were poor.

The hotel is rated as a four star - I would probably class it as a good three starred hotel.

The hotel isn't brand new, however, the rooms are very clean, comfortable, as are the bathrooms. Shower was always warm and good pressure. Beds very comfortable. Maids came in every day to clean and left the place spotless. The staff at the hotel were great I could not fault them.

We went B&B and the breakfasts were fine - and people we spoke to that were all inclusive seemed happy with the food. We didn't go to the hotel bar - there were things going on in the evening but we didn't travel to Madeira to sit in a hotel bar!

The pool area was very quiet and we had a lovely week at this hotel.

This hotel seems to be the only real hotel in Machico and as most of the people staying there seem to be on all inclusive, if you take a 5 min stroll in to the town centre you will find quiet local restaurants with great service and very cheap. When you go out in the evening you really feel you are abroad - there are very few tourists and most of the people walking around are Portuguese.

The only downside is that there was the normal sunbed stuff going on - unless you got your towel down by about 9am you ran a risk of not getting a lounger by the pool for the day.

The beach in Machico is quite choppy and is stoney but they have wooden boards out for people to sunbathe.

As for the weather, it was fine most of the time but we had a couple of cloudy days.

The hotel is five minutes from the airport and you only have a few planes flying over which didn't get on our nerves at all.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for couples for families with children. Great location, friendly staff and the perfect place to go to totally chill out. There is little to do here other than rest.

We went to Funchal a couple of times which is 20kms away (30 mins on the hourly express bus) which is worth doing.
