Visited Porto to watch a champions league game, staying for 3 nights. Chose this hotel after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. Wasn't disappointed. The view we had from our room was spectacular, a very unspoilt coastline, pedestrianised in front of the hotel, so very quiet.
Outside of hotel makes your heart sink a little, because it is a little outdated and in need of t.l.c., but on staying here and experiencing the 'brisk' weather conditions explains all. Inside the hotel is a different story. The room was nicely decorated, and very clean, the shower in the bathroom took a while to reach temperature but was nice and powerful. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, giving directions into town as well as recommending places to visit.
A little preplexing is why the hotel has 'Golf' included in its title because there isnt a golf club for miles around! It does however have a tennis court and swimming pool. The court doesnt look like its played on much, but the pool is very well looked after and very inviting.
The restaurant is on the beach just in front of the hotel, food is recommended, and was a reasonable price. There is also a small 'bistro' around the corner with a portugeuse menu, was very good and cost next to nothing.
A walk into town is about 7km, but was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. There is a bus stop just outside the restaurant so you can use public transport, but I'd recommend taking a sat nav and hiring a car because there isnt much nearby. Driving can be a bit of a nightmare though, the roadsigns are either non-existent or will confusingly point you in opposing directions to the same place, then just disappear altogether. We got lost everytime we went out in the car!
Porto as a town I found okay, but not much to do for someone visiting, a long weekend is long enough.
I would recommend this hotel for the view alone, not too far outside Porto, and good value for money. Thinking of returning in the summer for another long weekend purely because the hotel was so nice.
