“Get What You Pay For”

Hotel America

3 of 5 stars
Durham
Sep 17, 2008

Stayed at this hotel after booking short notice and the price paid was very good for an all inclusive. Arrived and put into the rooms in the annex which were good size with good shower and lovely view onto the sea so was pleasently surprised. The location is good with being next to the beach and the resort centre which is small but there is plenty of the usual shops etc. The food i thought was generally ok in the buffet you are not going to get Carribean choice but there again you are not paying the price. The BBQ was not great purely as you did not get much choice and would need to go to the buffet after to fill up. Pool bar was fine and served your chips and burgers etc. The hotel was busy when we went and the pools are not the biggest but again ok and this is the theme that the hotel and place is ok and good value for money. I think they need more staff in the buffet as we struggled for seating sometimes and the tables which were empty needed cleaning which i cant blame the individual staff as they couldnt keep up. The sunbed experience i think does not work although in principle it is a good idea however all that happens is prior to the sunbeds being unlocked people simply place their towels on the best spots under the shades hence effectively reserving these spots. All in all a decent 3 star hotel at a good price would recommend for families and with the increasing cost of the euro believe this place will get busier.

“Excellent-only one complaint”

Myself and my husband booked this holiday for a week in June 2008. We wanted a nice quiet resort perfect just to relax in the sun before our wedding. I had read the reviews before we went and did see that a lot of people had been transferred to other hotels upon arrival and told their room would not be ready until the following day. This DID happen to ourselves and the hotel we we transferred to although was nice was nothing compared to the hotel America. We went back to the Hotel America the following day and were told our room was now ready.
It was certainly well worth the wait. Once you're in the hotel there is not a single thing you could complain about. The food is fantastic, the hotel is spotless and brilliant for children. I would not recommend it for young singles as although there are bars in the resort it is very quiet.
Overall I would recommend this hotel but you must be prepared that you may get transferred for your first night. Certainly the best hotel in the resort

“what a joke”

Hotel America

Sep 14, 2008

Booked a weeks holiday via Thomas Cook to the hotel America. Had a night flight and got to the hotel for approx 5am only to be told that they had no room for us. We eventually had a cab to take us to a nearby "hotel" which we were told was also 3*. It was actually a dirty, smelly studio appt which still had hair in the bed from the previous occupant. We were told that our room would be ready by 11am and to get a cab back then. The room was not ready until 1pm so we had to hang around until then. The rest of the holiday was fairly good and not much to moan about. ,however it was ruined by the bad start.

Whilst we were there there were numerous other people turned away. All that the people at the hotel said was there was a problem with the floor, however it is common knowledge that they double book the rooms.
Please beware when booking a holiday here, You may not even have a night there.

“BRILLIANT HOLIDAY EXCELENT VALUE”

PLEASE READ THIS FOR A CLEAR DESCRIPTION OF THE HOTEL AMERICAS

In simple terms a fantastic holiday that I would recommend to anybody. I cannot stress this enough, IGNOR the negative comments on this site as they do not reflect in anyway the hotel, the staff and the location.
My answer to those people is if you want 5 star then please go and pay for 5 star. (Champagne lifestyles, lemonade pockets springs to mind.)

We booked for 10 days and the hotel was immaculate. Booked all of the components of the holiday seperate, on arrive to Palma 11.00pm wanted to travel by Taxi direct to avoid possible long transfer time, but our own choice ( 70 euros). I checked ahead of holiday with the hotel on a guide price so I knew what to expect (65 euros on return leg).

Food- Brilliant no complaints, they seem to cater more for the english. Naturally sometimes the choice is different from what you would normally eat but please think about this. If I asked you to invite 20 people around your house, for a meal, all from different countrys and feed them well with no complaints, what would YOU cook?

Snacks avalible all day, Pizzeria open 12-12 with pastas ect, you will not go hungry.

Hotel- The best views I have stayed in and I travel a lot each year. Very clean, maid service great. Drinks as you would expect from all inclusive. Branded drinks avalible if required, again the choice is yours. Cafe bar at the front of hotel is good to chill out mid afternoon.

Staff- All found friendly, In the day they have games on for children/adults. Great Piela day on the Wednesday around the pool. The head of the entertainment section is a double of Will Smith, good laugh though. Bingo every night before entertainment, Yes it is no Las Vegas, but good enough to enjoy.

Location- The best in calas, the hotel has steps down to the beautiful warm beach where you can walk out into the sea upto mid waist for a long distance.Sea warm and very clear around rocks loads of fish that you can see and feed with bread if you want to, take goggles. Pedalos to hire if required.
Shops selling hoilday booze souviners ect, great places for kids to go, english bars if you want that as well.

In summary, I checked loads and loads of hotels on this site to find a hotel that I would be comfortable for my family to say in.

AND REMEMBER A HOLIDAY IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT AND
FOR THE PRICE THIS IS IT.

We went to Hotel America first week of Sept transfer from airport was nearly 2 hours as we were last drop off not good as should of been 60 mins but when we got to hotel about 10pm got checked straight away, room 222 best veiw we ave ever ad, no complaints about room at all, food- breakfast was very good for all inclusive never at lunch in the resturant so cannot comment, food from pool bar really nice toasties, burgers etc. dinner was usually nice although only ate there a couple of nights had the bbq a couple of times 1st time nice and day before we came home my partner ate some of a kebab which we dont think was cooked properly and was ill the day before we came home so just watch out for that, pool area does get busy but as per prev reviews re sunbeds we didnt get up till gone 10 every day and always got 1 each, view absolutely breath taking and beach is 2 mins away down a few steps, centre of calas was 2 mins walk not very lively but nice for a chillout, entertainment aimed at kids was not to bad and we didn't ave any kids went out in to calas till it was over most nights. For a cheap all inclusive holiday could not complain at all.Would definately recommend this to family and friends.
