“Great Holiday!!!!!”

Hotel America

I can't praise Hotel America enough. We arrived to find a clean spacious room with fantastic views. The food was great and there was plenty of choice, especially for children, we have a one year old who ate more then he ever has! The pool got busy at times and you do have to put a towel down to get a sunbed with shade (if you can't beat them, join them) The beach was just a 2 minute walk away. The sea is shallow and great for young children.
The entertainment was mixed, some shows were great, others not so good, but still funny and with the all inclusive drink flowing you don't tend to notice.

All in all a great holiday for the price we paid, we would not hesitate to go back.

P.S If you need a haircut whilst away go to the lady who owns the hairdressers up the road (her fliers are on reception) she did a fantastic cut and colour on mine for less then half the price it would have cost back home - highly recomended!

“Good Hotel - when you get in!”

Hotel America

We had read previous reviews about not getting into the hotel but thought going in September there would not be a problem. We got to the hotel about 6pm and were told that bcause of 'technical' problems with the room we would be sent to Hotel Samosa for one night. Thankfully it was just one night, but during our holiday we saw other visitors being turned away for three nights with the same 'technical problem' story - what they mean is they over book. Unfortunately this has put me off going back to what was otherwise a great hotel.

The hotel was very clean everywhere, the food was very good and we considered there was something there for everyone's personal taste. It was a shame that the 'Cafe Bar' was a smoking area, so we had no choice but to sit outside even when the weather was a bit 'iffy' as it as for a couple of days. As mentioned in another reiview, the pizzas in the Pizza Bar were a bit raw. We saw them cooked for about 10 mins in an oven, but that would be the only complaint about food.

Our room (737) overlooked the entertainment area and the beach/cove which was great, we could sit on the balcony late evening and laugh at the kareoke, and see other entertainment.

Thre beach/cove was wonderful. We did the pool in the morning and beach after lunch. Sandy beach and warm, very clear water

We took the bus to Porto Cristo (2 Euros each ) and visited the Caves of Drach (10 Euros) - well worth a visit. Took the catamaran back (12 Euros each), steady legs needed for getting off the cat and up the steps.

I would go back to Mallorca but not the same resort or hotel - a resort built for the tourist industry.

“Never Again!”

Hotel America

Me and my girlfriend have only just come back from staying a week at Hotel America through Thomas cook. Like one of the previous reveiws, we arrived at 5am in the morning on the 21st and we were told that the hotel was fully booked until the next day. A group of us was sent to Hotel Somoa, which was just a minute up the road. The rooms at this hotel were disgusting, our room was infested with ants. The next morning we couldn't check in at Hotel America until 1pm. So we spent half the day hanging around until we got our room. This was not a brilliant start to our holiday!

We where settled when we finally got our room. The rooms are lovely, and they are cleaned everyday with fresh towells. The food was ok, it gets a bit too much near the end of the holiday. Although you could not fault the breakfast! The swimming pools are nice and so is the sun lounging areas. The other disapointment to the holiday was the weather, but you can't control the weather unfortunately. The entertainment was also a bit poor too, the Bingo was the only exciting entertainment.
The reception staff are not that helpful, and the holiday rep just didn't seem bothered with anything at all.

We certainly wouldn't reccomend this hotel to anyone. If you do decide to go, make sure you have definitley got your room ready for you!!

“Had a fabulous time, loved the staff”

Hotel America

5 of 5 stars
southampton
Sep 27, 2008

After a disastrous start where we had originally booked with part of the XL group, I emailed the hotel on the friday and they replied within a few hours and told me to book directly on their website. Although we paid an extra £90 we were still able to stay in the same hotel, which was the most important as we were leaving in 4 days and didnt have time to hunt for a new hotel (we had booked our flights through a separate company).

Check-in was speedy, had room 831 which had fantastic views down to Porto Colom and over the sandy coved beach below. Met a couple who had been moved to another hotel for their first night and they had arrived a couple of hours before us, but as we booked directly with the hotel it seems we were given preference. The bar staff were entertaining. Sometimes there was a long queue at the pool bar as there were only 2 serving, but they limited everyone to getting 3 drinks at a time (everything is served in half pint plastic cups). Food was of a good variety, hubbie loved the chips and I loved all the european dishes. Good salad choices too. The pizza looked a bit "microwaved" and only ate other dishes from the Pizzaria which stayed open til midnight and was great if you had the munchies after a few drinks.

Evening entertainment was amateur, but still good fun. While we were there they had a magic show with contortionist, humourous beatles tribute act, kareoke, also every night bingo for us oldies and "mini disco time" for the youngsters. Shakey Shakey Wakey Wakey! The Sofia bar was open til 2.30am and charged 3euros for a pint of San Miguel, but becareful if you sit at the bar as they give you free drinks, namely tequila slammers. :) There were daily activities: archery, pool, football etc and they handed out winners certificates in the evening.

There are a few places where you can book excursions and hire cars around the island, but we had hired a car for the 9 days so never used these. The resort is small, but has the usual gift shops selling lilos in all colours, postcards, souveniers etc. Tabacco shop, chinese restaurant, Irish bar with live music which was good and reasonably priced, supermarket etc.

Kids seem to find things to do, although it was raining 2 evenings in a row and they didnt have the disco as this is held outside, thats probably the only downside we saw as the hotel didnt cater much for entertaining kids inside, apart from a couple of pool tables and those "pick up a toy" machines.

Some people were grumbling over the quality of the place, but my husband and I found that these were the sort of people who mistook 3* All Inclusive with 5* Luxury, which we found quite funny as they were also upset as it wasnt all "chicken, chips and beans" sort of food (the hotel has mainly British guests, but also popular with French, Spanish, Polish and Czech, so the food catered to every taste). There's a well known burger place up the road!

If you are open minded, want a clean hotel with beautiful views, then stay at the Hotel America.

Overall an excellent hotel and would definitely come back, but I would pay the extra to book direct with the hotel again just for the security of staying at the hotel for the entire time.

“An excellent 3 star Hotel”

I have just returned from a week at this Hotel, and a very pleasant stay it was indeed. It is a very clean Hotel, and plenty of choice with food and drinks (dare say if there for 2 weeks would be a bit boring on the food side!) The down side to this Hotel is that they overbook all the time and shuffle people to other Hotels or not so good rooms. Our first night was spent in room 101, which they tell you is a family room, not so sure about that as the disco directly underneath is open until 2.30a.m. Also these rooms do not have a balcony they do not even have clear glass on the windows. There was never a time when I was not near the reception area when people were either asking to be moved, or were in the process of swapping rooms!!! Infact I tried to help an elderly lady that was there with her disabled brother, change rooms, she never had any joy. Infact the reception staff were not very nice with her. I later heard them giving rooms to other people like she had requested. So be prepared for this to happen to you!!!!
That aside as a 3 star Hotel it is excellent, staff are very pleasant and it is in a lovely location. Excellent value especially with young children.
