“Brilliant Breakfasts!”

Stayed here, with my wife, for a long weekend at the end of April. Just a little further along the "Promenade" than I would have ideally liked but no huge problem. An extremely impressive lobby which, on closer inspection, is a little '70s - as is most of the hotel. We enjoyed a "superior" harbour/cathedral view room which was marvelous. To the rear of the hotel is an extremely seedy area and is best avoided. The room was very spacious and, whilst not exactly tatty, was rather tired. A tip for first time visitors regarding the rather unique lifts! You select your floor as you call the lift before entering because, once inside, you have no control. Once you know the system they are extremely fast and efficient. And now, to that breakfast. I have stayed in many 4 & 5 star hotels throughout the world and I can say, without doubt, that this hotel offers the finest breakfasts I have ever come accross. A massive choice of hot, cold, sweet and savoury items all beautifully presented by fastidious staff.
An average four star hotel with breathtaking views from the front facing rooms.

“Pleasant, but not that great”

Melia Palas Atenea

We stayed here over Easter, and had a good time despite the wet weather. However, we don't quite understand why this hotel has received such excellent reviews. It's good, but not great. As mentioned by other reviewers the views from the front facing rooms are stunning (don't even think about having a room at the back). You pay a supplement for the marina facing rooms, we paid 133 euros a night over Easter (excluding breakfast but including tax). I don't see how the Melia chain can justify that price, as the rooms are very
dated and are not up to modern 4 star standards. They are like something out of the 1970's - beige, brown and a bit tatty. Bathroom was clean but basic. I agree that breakfast is huge and very good but no better than we have had in other 4 star hotels. It costs 18 euros per person, but companion eats free with a MAS card. We didn't get a chance to use the pool terrace because of the bad weather, but the traffic noise there was awful. We used the indoor pool which was O.K. and welcome. Traffic noise in the room wasn't a problem provided
we kept the windows closed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Check-in and out was quick and efficient. Palma is good for a long weekend break, but we would'nt go there in the summer. Best for spring or autumn I think. Don't miss the cathedral.

“Great Hotel”

As a party of four we spent three nights in the Melia Palas Atenea. We all agreed that it was a very good hotel in a superb location on the Paseo Maritimo. Very handy for catching the open top bus tour of the city! Also within easy walking distance of the cathedral and old town. As other contributors have said, the champagne breakfast on offer is superb. We also used the restaurant at the entrance and had a very pleasant dining experience. There are several restaurants of good quality very close by. Would certainly use this hotel again.

Stayed for a short 4 night break, 2 adults with 2 teenagers. Everything commented on in previous reviews is correct this is definately one of the best 4 star hotels I have stopped in anywhere in the world. All staff are extremely helpfuland polite, and the breakfast buffet well ......better off just going to try it for yourself , this Hotel i would not recommend to anybody trying to lose weight or on a diet !!. This area which the hotel is situated is ideal for visiting palma, the Cathedral being a short 15min walk, (a walk being the best way to try and burn of the breakfast calories). Numerous restaurants close to the hotel all around the same price all of good quality and service. Anybody wanting to spend a short break in palma this Hotel is perfect, upgrading the room for a sea/cathedral view is well worthwhile. We will definately be using this hotel on our next visit to Palma.

“Melia Palas Atenea”

Melia Palas Atenea

Stayed at Melia Palas Atanea March 2007.

We had booked using Expedia, and were expected, which was a relief (even though we were on a no-show list, because our plane was late, and we didn't arrive until 10 pm).

We were on the 8th floor, and were given the (stunning) sea view, as requested.

Much of the good things previous reviewers have commented on are correct, and i only have a couple of niggles.

The bathroom was a little cramped, and it was impossible to sit straight on the you-know-what because it was so close to the wall.

The lift (elevator) operating system (and floor numbering system) is sure to divide opinion. I understand why the system was installed, and what it is intended to achieve, but I thought them unnecessarily complicated (my wife thought they were great), and can be difficult to master for anyone who doesn't understand the concept. On more than one occasion, we were in a lift with a guest who had no idea which floor they wanted, or how they could actually get there.

Other reviewers have mentioned the noise from the road. The traffic noise was not a problem for us. However, we were on the eighth floor and were still woken at 4 am by the noise of revellers leaving the nearby clubs. Of course, we might not have heard the noise had we fully closed the balcony door. Still, eighth floor...

Dont bother using the computers in the lobby for internet access. It would be quicker to send a letter in the mail. We paid 5 euros for 30 minutes internet access, and spent most of the time waiting for our pages to arrive. Very poor!

Other than those couple of niggles, we had little to complain about, and would certainly use the hotel again.
