Just returned from 6 night stay at Tryp Bosque and believe it to be excellent value for money.Via www.travelzoo.com,we bagged a clean, well appointed double room for 50 euros, per night as part of a Sol Melia promotion(hotel chain owned by Sol Melia)
Hotel is favoured by ebullient,beer-friendly Air Berlin flight crews,so always a lively but comfortable atmosphere in the hotel.
Tried room service ,on one occasion = good value, well presented.
Prior to arrival,I requested a high level room ,with view to the Cathedral, and that is exactly what I got.Staff very friendly and helpful with useful recommendations and excellent info. re- trips/buses/taxis etc.
Pool area is dated but all other amenities seemed to be very good.
Would recommend the breakfast = very fresh, good selection of hot and cold dishes.
Didn't fancy the look of the restaurants in immediated vicinity but the Old Town has some of the best food available - for tapas,go no further than Taberna de la Boveda,on the sea front,a block prior to the Cathedral.Excellent tapas, also,at No.13,a superb bistro in Carrer Feliu, behind the cathedral.
Abaco,an up-market cocktail bar,in Carrer St.Joan, back of Placa Llotja,is an experience,as is the Hindu Indian restaurant, found on the same block as hotel Costa Azul,on sea front.
There is a set gastronomic menu, changed daily, which includes wine, and amounts to about 15 fabulous courses, all managed by very informative and attentive manager = euro33 per head but well worth it
As for the city,Palma is very cosmopolitan and this is reflected in the variety of eating/drinking/entertainements on offer with prices not far off uk.
The train/tram trip to Soller/Puerto Soller is great but best free trip is the fabulous walk around the bay of Palma-offset by numerous refreshment stops.
All in all, would recommend hotel as cheap, clean, well located base but,as it is uphill walk back from town, not for less able
