After booking and reading the various reviews I was a bit worried about going, but went with an open mind. All in all a lot of the people here do have valid arguments and having experienced most of the same I was taking each day at a time and what an experience. Reception Staff generally unhelpful but the bar/restaurant/grounds staff were mostly helpful around the complex(s) and were clean and tidy; any mess was dealt with as a priority and quite regimented bearing in mind the volume of guests. The food selection was quite good although often under cooked and stodgy at breakfast times but good at lunch/evening times. The safety aspects inside of the hotel(s) are the worse I have ever experienced and are of great concern. I am not over dramatising but I am surprised there has not been a death. The balcony’s' have low level bars that a child can easily climb and the railings on all floors (hotel lift areas) are below hip level. The hotels are heavily marbled and more often wet creating an ice/slip effect. Just for example I ended up in hospital for two days after a fall in the downstairs lobby area in the Saturno Hotel on the day of the first England match, witnessed by many on lookers. I was well taken care of by other guests and the hotel did respond quite quickly with a call out doctor whom had me admitted due to a head injury. Within minutes of my fall a 7 year child also fell in the same area! The hotel only at this point placed caution signs.
After returning back to the hotel the staff did show compassion but the holiday Reps, Cosmos I will add ostracised me completely after they thought I had a cheek to complain. Do not expect a hospital visit but do expect unsympathetic handling by the Reps at this hotel, they were completely unhelpful and blatantly rude. I have yet to receive a response from Cosmos HQ. We travel overseas twice a year and have been to many locations around the world and the Reps have been good but this is an example of young Reps out of there depth. The disrespectful penetrating looks and blatant walk on by’s left the remaining 5 days of our holiday with tension and atmosphere which was a great shame all round…
Be duly warned in the event of an accident ~ take extra care in the hotels!
The child clubs are very good at this hotel but like a lot of people say they come at a price at this all inclusive location and large families will feel the additional outlay, although outside of the complex there is a lot to do if you do not mind the fairly short walks. However, there is a good free kid’s play area. The people we met at the hotel were fantastic with the odd miserable ones but it happens. Yes there were a lot of kids and this for us was nice to see as they enjoyed themselves. And yes sometimes they did run around but always looked out for by 95% of the parents; in fact most parents were lovely and mutually looked out for each others children, which was really nice. After all it is a family resort. The only down side were the younger chav teenagers.
The rooms at the resort had a common bond by the smell of poorly serviced air condition units in the rooms that left a really bad egg smell to greet you when walking into your room. I found that the only way to get rid of it at night times was to turn off the aircon and leave open the balcony doors (curtains closed). The room service was good but the towels and bed top sheet were only changed three times over our 11 night stay from the 6th to the 17th June 2006.
Noise levels were fine and expected and went on until late but once again it is a family resort and too be expected, you’re on holiday! One night I was awoke by some lads’ skinny dipping which was entertaining when hotel security got involved which brings be back to cleanliness; the pools are cleaned every morning without fail. All in all you will make your holiday your own and I would not rule out going back again but defiantly requesting nothing more than 4th floor rooms as safety is not good and the lifts at this complex are really bad. On this stay we were placed on the 10th (top floor) and quite a dizzy feeling to be had when on the balcony, quite high up but great views.
Entertainment in the main arena is good most nights but get there early to avoid standing all night, room is limited. The small stages near the hotel bar(s) have regular cheesy bands but good for a laugh and mingling with other guests.
Enjoy!
