“2nd time visitor, still great for kids”

Protur Safari Park Aparthotel

Sep 26, 2008

We just returned from a stay at the Safari Park. We went last year and decided to return again this year because we knew what to expect, and we were primarily looking for a place with nice pools, great atmosphere for our 4 year old son, and a great beach.

The property was still nicely maintained. The apartment-style rooms were basic and clean, despite the usual....some ants appeared in the room when we left crumbs on the floor, and the bathroom shower/tub always smells slightly like mildew.

As parents of a 4 year old, we chose this place because they constantly have activities for kids...in September since school was back in we only saw kids under about 5 years old at the resort. They do have a "kids club" but their signs clearly state it is not a daycare.....I was not comfortable leaving my son there as they state on the door that the kids are not monitored carefully and are allowed to come and go as the please. It's more of another activity option to do WITH your kids (not meant for the adults to have some time to their selves!). But we did participate in a couple of the activities together which were nice.

In September the pools were a bit too cold for our liking but there were still many other people swimming. The beach was a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, crystal clear water, white sand, and very shallow long sloping water with small easy waves - perfect for little kids. The ocean water was quite nice and warm. There is a nice castle and look out point 1.4 km from the hotel, easily walkable and ponies for rent close by the Sa Coma beach which we rented for my son to ride as we walked to the castle and look out point. Cute little cafe there as well to have a drink and enjoy the view of the Calla Millor on the other side. The hotel has a below average fitness room with run down equipment, but better than nothing, a sauna, and indoor pool which was closed both times we have visited this property. There is 3 mini golf courses, very nicely done and free to all inclusive guests. There is also a small water slide, mushroom water fall, go carts and trampolines.

The hotel itself has access to a doctor at all times and offers daily doctor’s visits for 80 Euros should you need it. There was a pharmacy and large grocery store very close to the property. There is tons of shops lining the streets to get your basic beach necessities for cheap.......towels (the hotel does not provide swim towels), sand pails/shovels, rafts, etc.

Nightly, our son’s favorite activity was the kiddy disco which they do every night at 8:30. The entertainment staff led the kids in song and dance for 30-45 minutes which they LOVE....it's the same songs every night so by the end of the trip they know all the moves. And you can buy the CD of all the music they play to take home with you. After the disco at about 9:30 daily evening entertainment starts, which goes until about 11:00 and is way too loud. If you anticipate not being able to sleep because of the noise, I'd suggest asking for a room that faces away from the pools (center property) and looks on to the back of the property. The rooms are less than sound proof.

I would suggest this property only for families with kids - if you are looking for somewhere romantic to go as a couple, think again!

The only other thing to mention is the food. It is not what drew us to the property and is their worst attribute by far. The only upside is that there is constantly something available to eat. If you are looking for Spanish or Mallorcan food......DO NOT COME HERE. There is a buffet option and several other restaurants on the property which are below par but for 35 extra Euros a day to feed 3 of us, we decided to just suffer through. If you want to eat at the alternate restaurants, I suggest making your reservations the day you arrive because they fill up fast, and the buffet becomes mundane and repetitive. It's okay food, but go to this resort for the kids activities, nice beach and pools, not for the food!!! We went one day to Porto Cristo for dinner and enjoyed a very nice dinner along the ports water front - fresh fish and a cute little town.

“Safari Sa Coma Majorca”

Safari,Sa Coma,Majorca.14/09/08

Just returned from a week at the Safari.Large complex.Very clean.Staff superb.Good selection of food at each meal. The added bonus of eating out as part of all inclusive was at 4 restaurants. The Italian and mediterranian were good.We did not try the Grill, but that looked okay with steaks, chops etc.Steer clear of the Tapas. We arrived at the Tapas restaraunt and were seated on bar stools. My husband pointed out that i was disabled and could not sit on a bar stool. The rather rude lady stated that was our seat and we could only stay if we were seated there. We stayed for less than an hour. The food was bad.I love my food but could not eat there. The beef did not taste like beef and that put me off eating anything. The entertainmant staff at the Safari were excellent. How they remembered my husbands name out of over a 1000 guests is a credit to them. The Spa(which is free to Safari guests )was incredible. We went 5 times over the week. There were 5 different temperature Saunas and the Spa included every Jacuzi and Spa imaginable to work every part of the body.We only paid 5 euros on the first visit for our swim caps which were compulsary. You must go.You cant imagine the relaxation you will feel. There is a lovely beach within 8 minutes walk with white sands and an amazing sunrise. There are plenty of local shops where you can buy gifts, booze and tobacco to bring home.We bought a nice piece of Nao at a very reasonable price.Overall a very relaxing break.Came home weighing a lot more than when we went but also very relaxed. An added note for the bar staff.Maria was outstanding, what a gem,an English girl who made us extremley welcome. We cannot fault any of the bar staff who always had a smile even when under pressure from the customers. We would return if we were lookin for a relaxing break.

“Good clean hotel”

Protur Safari Park Aparthotel

4 of 5 stars
nottingham
Sep 14, 2008

We stayed at this hotel for one week from 04/09/08. We found it to be extremley clean and friendly. We have a 7 month old baby and the apartment facilities were great. A proper cot was also a big bonus. Very clean with maid service daily.

We decided not to go all inclusive as we like to eat out and do our own thing. Sa Coma though is a tiny resort with hardly any decent restaurants. We found one which was the outside BBQ one, we ate here 3 times in 1 week. The rest of the eateries tend to cater for the Brit abroad!. This being full English breakfast and sunday roast every night...... chips chips and chips with everything. This was the only gripe with resort. Apart from that it was nice.

The weather was spot on.. about 32 degrees most days. We had a couple of cloudy days but it was still really warm.
We didnt try the beach although what we saw looked really nice. Lovely and clean.
The pool at the Protur is very clean. We never struggled to get a sun lounger although i should imagine its a different story in the height of summer. We had to laugh at all the Germans though. We were up early most dayswith having a young baby. I would watch them put their towels down from 7am!!! honestly there was no need. They would then dissapear to breakfast and not return for hours. Saying that their are loads and loads of loungers so it wasn't a problem.
The only down side was that a couple of lifts were out of service for our entire week. We had to walk quite a way to get another and when you have a buggy this was a pain.
Another great point was that the coutesy room is excellent. There are 2 good showers and plenty of clean towels to use. This is by far the best courtesy room i have ever used. Good baby changing facilities also.
All in all we had an excellent week away.

“Horrendous”

Protur Safari Park Aparthotel

Sep 10, 2008

I don't know where to start. Dreadful. Shocked into silence. We checked out after 5 nights. It maybe fine if you are used to an "All singing & all dancing" affair.

Kids disco was screeched out every night (could be heard on the prom at the beach) with songs that my son - 5 yrs old had never heard before. (Bit like Eurovision)

Our apartment was on the ground floor, close to the stage and therefore we heard in full voice the "entertainment" every evening. It was still terrible even after the AI booze. Not sure what we were drinking with coke. Asked for Bacardi but didn"t taste like it should so we decided it was just Booze.

On opening our balcony doors in the afternoon, we were met with hundreds of people (usually with tight speedos and huge bellies) looking into our apartment. We would just shake our heads in horror.

The dining room offered plenty of choice, not sure what a lot of the food was but pretty sure some was left over from the lunch. Surely beefburgers in "red sauce" or fish in "green sauce" isnt a spanish dish - who knows??.

Because the dining rooms catered for so many guests (ours held 602) the waiters were continuously cleaning and tidying tables. It was so noisy. It was not relaxed.

The mini golf was a peaceful haven.

Overall I would not return to this hotel, it was just too big.

It seemed to cater for the German client (being first language) .

If you like "Butlins" abroad you will enjoy, there is no way I would allow any of my friends to go.

I've got so much to say but I think you get my drift.

“Fantastic Safari Park”

Protur Safari Park Aparthotel

Sep 9, 2008

We have just returned from the Protur Safari Park 29 Aug - 5 September. Brilliant, fantastic place! An excellent holiday was had by all. The facilities at the complex was in my opinion 1st class.

As previously mentioned by some reviewers - Yes there were a lot of Germans in the complex, yes they could be quite annoying, yes there were a lot of hotel guests, yes there were a lot on sunbeds - but who cares - the hotel is 1st class, an excellent place to take your family and in my opinion the standard of the hotel/apartments/food/facilities etc etc are the most important thing to look for in a holiday not how many guests or what nationality the hotel guests are.

Our group consisted of 3 over 60's 2 over 35's and one child of 6 years and everybody had a brilliant time. We booked the Safari Park after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed.

The apartments were large and very very clean. We had a problem with the air-conditioning system and one call to reception and the problem was rectified!! All the staff were extremely helpful. The all-inclusive option was brilliant and you had the option to book into different places to eat (via Clubhouse) if you wished to do so. At the Clubhouse you could hire bikes/tennis equipment and for an extra 11 euros per adult and 5 per child you could go to the La Reserva (small water park) behind the main hotel - what a brilliant place - so nice and relaxing.

If you want an excellent holiday, excellent facilities - book this hotel - I will be visiting again.
