“Best in town”

Hotel Rocamar

4 of 5 stars
New Jersey
Apr 7, 2008

We have travelled to Cadaques 3-4 times in the last 5 years. Each time we have stayed at the Rocamar. It's more remote than the other offerings in town; on a high hill on the edge of town with a nice beach below the property. The restaurant is excellent for lunch, overlooking the pool and magnificent sea views toward the lighthouse. As noted in other reviews, they can be a bit lax with their maintenace ( the garbage can was overflowing in the parking lot for a few days until someone finally noticed). Rooms on the upper floors with sea or bay views are the best. Lower floors have terraces overlooking the parking lot. Town center is a 10 minute walk which begins down a 100+ stone steps to beach in front of the neighboring 3 star LLane Petit Hotel. The trip home ends with the same steps, but up! Not a good choice for anyone who does't enjoy a good hike. For those that do enjoy hiking, the Hotel borders a trail that leads out to the lighthouse, on high cliffs and past a beautiful remote beach. It's about 2 miles each way. Overall the Rocamar is the best choice in town, unless you don't enjoy a bit of walking. The Playa Sol is the best choice in "el centro" but doesn't have as nice a beach.

“Worst hotel in Cadeques”

Hotel Rocamar

Sep 25, 2007
2/2 found this review helpful

We recently toured Spain and arrived at Cadeques and instantly loved the town - we had been very cautious with our budget staying in mainly 2* hotels en route and we decided to treat ourselves to the best hotel in town as we though we'd stay for a couple of days. What a mistake! The room was on the 'premier etage' or dungeon as we named it ,with a 'sea view' of the car park. The room was very dusty with basic amenties for a 3* hotel. This hotel is overpriced (180 euros) with terrible rooms, terrible breakfast and unsuable facilities. Thank goodness we didn't let it ruin our stay in Cadeques!

“Worst Hotel Ever”

Hotel Rocamar

1 of 5 stars
Barcelona
Aug 21, 2007

We booked the hotel Rocamar thinking it would be the best hotel in Cadaques. We chose the room with view to the sea and not to the mountain whose price was (including taxes) about 180 euros.
They told us the room would be on the first floor and would not have as much view as the others floors....ok. But for them, first floor means street level....so our bedroom view was the parking of the hotel with a car always park right in front of our window...and no views at all. In fact we kept our courtains closed all the time because additionally people can see u from the street.
They also said they offer a lot of services as an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, minigolf, etc...The idea was that if the weather was not good at least (for what we were paying) we could enjoy the indoor pool or other amenities.
Unluckily the weather was not good. And we tried to use the indoor swimming pool and the told us in Augost is closed (somehting it is not very clear in the web). We also tried to play tennis and you had to pay 7 euros if you want to book the court (so the services they offer are not included in the extremely high price you pay for a 3 star hotel).
Also in theory they give your towels for the swimming pool, but since we arrived we were told (and more than once): "please try not to ask for more than one towel each IN ALL YOUR STAY because we dont have many"... I think with the price of the room they can affor some towels.
Although the hotel has two restaurants (the indoor and the outdoor )...the indoor one is "of course" closed in summer. We tried the outdoor restaurant once and we wait to be served...a long time...not to mention the salad came after the main course and i had to enter to the place and take the drinks myself to the table because we were eating without drinks.
Finally when we left ...A NEW SURPRISE...in our bill they made a mistake and they had charged us other people lunches or dinners in the restaurant, because someone just gave our room number and "as they dont check it" ... If i hadn't notice i would have paid for other people stuff.
The breakfast was the only thing that i can approve in that hotel...although the first day the coffee maker was broken and we had to go to the village to have our morning coffee.
The village itself is very beutiful so if anybody mean to go to Cadaques ... chose any other place to stay so your holidays are not ruinned.

“Enjoyed our Stay, Best Hotel in Town”

Hotel Rocamar

5 of 5 stars
Dusseldorf, Germany
Apr 21, 2007
5/5 found this review helpful

We enjoyed our 5 nights and days at Rocamar very much. The hotel is officially rated 3 stars, but in fact it is 3 star plus. We enjoyed the location, the restaurant, the bar, and our room. Since Cadaques has no 4 or 5 star hotel and the Rocamar is superior to the other 3 star hotels in town, this is the best choice.

Location: The Rocamar is at the edge of town, away from all tourist frenzy but just a little walk from town - ideal. You have fantastic views on Cadaques and the bay, especially from the hotel restaurant. The hotel has direct access to two beaches, one of them hardly frequented by other visitors than hotel guests.

Rooms: The rooms are typical 3-star meditteranean style. That means, furniture and decoration is somewhat stark but tasteful. The rooms with sea view are spacious and have balconies. The rooms with mountain view still have a nice view but are on the small side and have no balconies. The bathrooms are new, partially in marble, and well functioning.

Public areas: The lobby is tasteful decorated with a nice sitting area close to the bar. The hotel has a huge, sunny terrace.

Pool/leisure: They have two pools, a beautiful unheated outdoor pool (open from 1 April) and a well-heated indoor pool. They have tennis courts, minigolf and a beach terrace with bar and restaurant.

Restaurant: The hotel restaurant offers regional fare, with very fresh fish and seafood (often the catch of the very afternoon). We had a very friendly waiter who always gave us the best recommendations what to eat and drink. And the restaurant is incredibly inexpensive. The always offer a 3-course-menu of the day, and this could consist of pasta with a generous serving of fresh prawns, cooked to perfection, as the main course a whole anglerfish (per person!), cooked au gratin with bell pepper mousse, and choice of dessert. When we ordered the Cadques specialty, suquet, we were served a whole turbot per person for 17 Euros. Excellent regional wines are served for 7 Euros (not per glas, per bottle!), champagne-style sparkling wines start at 10 Euros per bottle. And if you order a Spanish brandy.... We had four evenings dinner at the Rocamar and always enjoyed. One evening we left the hotel for dinner in one of the best restaurants and Cadaques and the food was pretty similar, just 20% more expensive (maybe 20% better). Buffet breakfast was 4-star-level, with Spanish specialties (fried bread with fresh tomato and olive oil, fried chorizo, cream cakes etc.).

Service: Maid service was good. Reception was good and helpful. We also liked the bar and often ordered a bottle of champagne to drink on our balcony - no deal for 13 Euros per bottle (we took one of the better champagnes).

Within 5 days, we did not encouter any of the problems of which other reviewers spoke.

“Stay not worth the price”

Hotel Rocamar

Feb 18, 2007

Frankly, this place is too expensive for what they offer. The location is great, but our room was right next to the indoor swimming pool and we could hear all the noise from the kids swimming in the pool.

Also the room smelled of sewage! I think the room is right next to the pipes or something.

Anyway, the hotel is an old establishment and they need to do a better job in refurnishing it. Pity because it is in a good location and we were so looking forward to our stay.
