“You'd have to be desperate”

Cranbrook Hotel

Dec 4, 2007

Was greeted by a receptionist whom I can only describe as being 'scared', which is not surprising given the location of this dive. Other reviews have summed up my feelings about this place. I asked for a non smoking room and was told that all rooms are smoking!
The walls are paper thin. The guy in the adjoining room to mine snored through the night so loudly that I thought he'd got into bed with me.
In the summer months you may be better off in a tent, in the winter, well I suppose you could try centrepoint, Tottenham court Road.

“Worst hotel i have ever stayed in”

This place is the pits. I think the AA should go and check it out. I stayed in number 44 for 3 nights. The shower had mold around it. Under the bed was absolutely filthy too. No bacon for breakfast but you can have turkey or chicken!

The room wasnt cleaned for 3 nights and the toilet was blocking for most of the time. The curtains were hanging on by the threads.

The only positive was the staff were quite nice

“DSS Hostel, not 3 star hotel!!!”

I was booked in here by my work, boy have I complained about this place.
There's a big sign in the reception area saying no drug or alcohol violence will be tolerated, presumably other types are Ok... It's a £20 depost for the room key, £20 deposit for the phone, and the room itself was the size of a shoe box, and this was an ensuite - although they do have rooms with shared facilities also.
The furniture was at least 25 years old, the shower was dirty, the bed was very old and the carpet was horribly stained.
The other people in the hotel all appear to be either truck drivers, Indian or DSS people - the company I visited that day in Ilford were horrified I stayed there as locally it is known as a dump.
Breakfast was very bad - cheap nasty conrflakes with hot milk!
The so called cooked breakfast was inedible, the sausages were all gristle and fat, the scrambled eggs were rubbery and the orange juice was diluted. Also on the menu was chicken fillet and lambs liver - suspect this was for the foreigners.
This is a cheap dump, stay here at your own risk!

“What a dive!”

Cranbrook Hotel

I had to get a place to stay on business for 1 night - am I glad that it was only the one night!

It's actually 2/3 houses knocked into one ( quite common in the UK) but it's a bit of a stretch to call it a hotel. On arrival I entered the reception to see/hear someone having a very loud argument on their mobile phone in what sounded like a Russian accent - seeing as he was also wearing the obligatory leather jacket and had a thick moustache I don't think I was too far off the mark. After manoeuvring around his flailing arms I reached the desk and met a polite young girl but, unfortunately she also had a very strong eastern european accent and I didn't quite understand what she was saying. I was charged for the room and given a key, expecting to find my own way through the maze of corridors to my room.

Now it gets interesting. A dusty, tiny room that didn't appear to have seen a cleaner for some time, I then looked in the bathroom - not surprisingly, the shower has seen much better days, with mildew and broken tiles and enough hair in the plug to make a very fetching wig. A quick check of the bed and that seemed okay, but whilst unpacking a pair of my socks rolled under the bed. I knelt down to get them and I found someone elses worn socks!
And an empty whiskey bottle!
and a newspaper from february 10th!
Gross.
I left my socks as each attempt to retrieve them resulted in my getting a handful of dust and some other foreign object!
I was just glad that i'd brought an extra pair as well.

After risking the shower I decided to go out for a bite to eat. Having lived in this part of London for 12 years in the 70's - 80's I knew my way around but it's changed and not for the better. I thought it wise not to venture too far as it doesn't seem at all safe anymore.
After a quick bite to eat I went back to the "hotel" (make that "dive") and hit the sack.
When I woke the next morning I reached over to turn the alarm off and noticed what looked like blood smears on the wall by the bedside unit where my alarm was!!

Breakfast was interesting.....
A chav couple swearing (very loudly despite there being children in the room) every other word (so it's probabaly a social security hotel) and a menu that was different from anything else i've seen in a hotel.
Since when is a chicken fillet considered a staple component of a full English breakfast???

I felt really sorry for an American family that were staying there. It was Thanksgiving and they were staying at a dump. I hope they hadn't plannned on staying there for the whole trip.

So, from this review you gathered I wasn't very impressed with the place - I post this as a warning to anyone else thinking of staying there.
DON'T!!
