At $139 a night plus tax ($162) this was to be the highlight of our trip. The establishment is rated 3 1/2 stars by Canada Select.
What they don't tell you is that the photos, while not touched up do not show that the cabins are surrounded on 3 of 4 sides by asphalt. The cabins are cute and clean. The beds however are of such poor quality that we had to throw the mattress on the floor in order to get a decent nights sleep. When I pay so much money, I expect nice fluffy towels, not stuff which I can see through. The upholstered furniture was likely purchased at a garage sale. The couch was worn and dirty and from the early 1970's. The chair, not matching looked like something from an office surplus warehouse and was also worn out. When I told the owner that at I expected at that price not to sit on something in which the springs stick into my butt he shrugged. We were very disappointed and felt ripped off. I would not recommend this unless you can't find anything else. The location is good, and near a great fresh fish market where they will boil your lobster for you. I definitely recommend the little town.

    • Disliked — The furniture is uncomfortable and the place is highly overrated by Canada Select.

“Well-equipped cabins in good location”

We stayed here for two nights while hiking in Gros Morne National Park. The park is huge and you have to drive very long distances to get to the various hikes and sights. Rocky Harbour is a great place to stay as it's in the middle of the larger side. The cabins are very clean and have everything you need. We stayed in a two-bedroom cabin with a full kitchen. There are lots of pots and pans, and we cooked for both dinners and breakfasts. The view from the cabins is great, and there is a grassy area in front of the cabins with picnic tables and a mini-playground for children. There is no AC, but we had no problem with the breeze and temperature from opening the windows, and we are notorious for needing AC. There is also no internet access, as would be expected at this type of property. There is no telephone in the cabin - there are payphones at the laundry room to use - we just used our cellphones. The front office is in a combined grocery/souvenir store, which actually had practically everything you need, if you look closely. I would verify that you have an ocean view, as there appeared to be two or three cabins on the other side of the alley that would have a view of the other cabins. They don't clean the cabins during your stay, but you can request it for an additional fee.

“Perfect Honeymoon”

My husband and I only had a short time for our honeymoon before he had to be shipped back to base so we chose Gros Morne as the ideal spot. Being both Newfoundlanders, it was wonderful being home again to get married, but it was more than we could have imagined. We booked the honeymoon suite at Gros Morne Cabins and upon entering it we fell in love with it. It was perfect for the two of us and our very picky dog who took to the place like it was home. It was clean, had everything we needed and the bed was so comfortable it was the best sleep I had in years. The people were wonderful, friendly, helpful and very personable. Travelling abroad with the military it was fantastic to come back to a place where people treated you like you were friends. Everything we needed was nearby and the view was amazing. I would recommend this spot to Newfoundlanders and Newfoundlanders to be, because once you come to the Island, there is no where else you want to be.

“Delightful”

I recently found this website and out of curiosity, looked up some of the places I've stayed on my travels. I was quite shocked to see the negative review for Gros Morne Cabins as this was one of my favorite places I have ever stayed. I actually stayed here way back in August of 2001 for 5 nights while I visited Gros Morne National Park. The cabins were just lovely inside with separate living room, bedroom and kitchenette. Beautiful quilt on the bed. All cabins have views out onto the ocean (actually I think it's the Gulf of St. Lawrence). Anyway, I could step right outside and watch the sunset over the water. The fresh fish market was just a very short walk away. All in all, it was just a great place to stay.

“No Appologies”

We awoke our first morning as newly weds in the honeymoon cabin to the sound of construction. We were NOT notified by the staff that construction would be taking place immediately next to the cabin.
Waking to the sound of men yelling, hammering and watching men walk by our window to plug extension cords into the outlet on the side of the cabin, was not ideal for a honeymoon or any vaction for that matter. We would have been at least prepared for it if they had given us some notice.

We approached the staff and received no appologies. We asked to see another cabin further away from the construction but was not impressed by the setup of the cheaper family cabins. The family cabin had two bedrooms with very small double beds.

Unsatisfied with the family cabin, we suggested that we would stay at the honeymoon cabin for a small discount. We were given a straight no.
They told us that the cabin was in high demand.

So we did the only thing we could and took our 4 remaining nights of business elsewhere and had a beautiful "quiet" honeymoon.

This gives me the impression that they lack business sense. They may have been able to book that cabin for the remaining time but about half of their other cabins were vacant. So they certainly did not loose out on the $150/night with the honeymoon cabin, but they did loose out on $130/night for a family cabin the next customers would have had to opt for.

So, overall, the cabins were nice inside, interesting mirrors on the ceiling in the honeymoon cabin, great jakoozie. Bring a frying pan cause the 2 supplied are cast iron and stainless steel which are very dificult to cook with. Something to note is that housekeeping costs extra! Honeymoon cabin also comes with "complementary" bottle of champangne, which they "forgot" to give us. No appologies yet again on that one. The staff person blamed it on another individual.

My suggetsion would be to stay at the Oceanview motel, Fisherman's landing hotel or stay in a tent at one of the many great camping sites.
