first off, i would like to say it was my first time to da caribean. I(25) booked this trip with my mother(50), and we felt very safe in cuba and on our site
(specially my mum was worry for me returnin' late nights from the disco by myself) I never felt unsafe. Pretty much secure. I wouldnt never hesitate to go by myself.
Room: Our room was clean,no bad smell, we were stayin on da 2nd floor, view from the sea, beautiful!!! Only thing, my curling iron, straightener wouldnt work, becoz the plug were different.and that suck, couldnt do my hair!!!! The towels were change everyday

Beach:The water was amazing, really clear, nice shade of colors. Lots of jelly fish, but they are not dangerous. I even got to touch them.
It was really windy on the first 2 days, We couldnt go to the beach & swim, there was a red flag, and the beach grill was close due to the windy days.

Staff:The staff was great. Very polite, we had good service. If u get a chance to meet Maileyn she sooo adorable,I miss her alot!!!! she work at the deskfront where there internet. We met alot of friendly peoples (canadians & britains, and it felt good to be away from the Americans) for your maid, tip them and they appreciate every little gifts, like baby clothes, makeup, paper, pencils. I even give some of my dress , they're were soooo grateful!!

Activity & things to do:The shows at nights (9:30-10:30pm) were very good, great dancers & the show were differents everynights.entertaining!! After i will go to da disco everynights until 2 oclock. Good music. If you like to go clubbin' I'd recommended u to take the train (3 pesos) and go to la CUEVA(the cave)10 pesos to get in. it amazing!!! IT's in a Cave!!! it 20 min train from the Sol. The train pick you up on wednesday night at 11:00pm in the lobby. come back at 1am or 2am.
We took the trip to visit Moron , Ciego de avila. I recommend it, if u really wanna see, hows the real cuban life, culture, it just not about the beautiful beaches of this communist country!! I was great to get to see the real thing. Please bring some candy for tha kids, you'll put some big smile in theirs faces. they appreciated every little things u can give to them.
The glass boat (20 pesos)it great , bring bread to feed hundred of fishes, dunt forget to bring ur camera waterproof for that!

My opinion: From what ive heard this hotel is defenetly not a **** but the staff and the place, make it all worth it. I would defenetly go back to Sol cayo coco. I miss yall over there!!!!! And u have to remember that you're in a poor country , and u CAN'T expect to be served like the **** Cesar's Palace in Vegas, comon'''' for those people that like 2 complain.

“Definitely not a 4-star resort”

If you get a good deal, you should go. Otherwise, don’t. This is definitely not a 4-star resort and the place is (just) starting to fall apart. If you’re the Queen of Clean, you’ll freak out, but if you can close your eyes on small details, you’ll survive. The staff attitude was not so great (you can tell that all they want is tips), rooms (beds) are definitely not comfortable and food not that great (just adequate). However, gardens and beach are great.

We stayed at the Sol Cayo Coco from January 27 to February 3.

“The Best Holiday EVER!!!!”

Hi there we have just arrived back from staying in the Melia Cayo Coco and it was the best holiday ever, the food was lovely, the staff were amazing, theres loads to do and a lot of choice in the drink available in the all inclusive deal. I didn't want to leave. The rooms are clean and the surrounding gardens are beautiful.

I have never ever been anywhere so welcoming and entertaining and would definately recommend it to my friends and family, we had no bad experiences what so ever.

The only downfall was the weather but that cant be helped. I also recommend the speed boat trip in the mangroves the snorkelling was fantastic.

The beach is small but very clean and if you get a sunny day spend it there.

We stayed at the Sol Cayo Coco from January 14-21 along with several other couples from Ontario. Having travelled to Cuba many times before, we are used to having "gliches" in our holiday (i.e. hotel might run out of a food or beverage, forget to restock toilet paper, telephone/computer problems)but usually the staff goes out of their way to apologize for any inconveniences. Every day, we had to ask our maid for water and toilet paper, even though we left money and a gift for her daily. The lobby bar is a nightmare for drink service and the absolute rudeness of some of the guests was unacceptable; I guess they felt they had travelled further and owned the resort. Restaurant service was severely lacking and many mornings we simply went and got our own cutlery and glasses. The food was okay, (you could never go hungry) but most 4 star resorts we have been to have a recognizable theme night and music at dinner every night by a band which this did not. I found the attitude of the staff puzzling, as it appears there is no one striving to better this resort or even attempt to obtain tips by being friendly and acknowledging guests. We are always very generous with daily tips, gifts and are courteous to the hotel staff. The poolside bar staff and Oscar the gardener were the lifesavers as far as hospitable people were concerned. The rooms were dated but clean and the beach area is absolutely beautiful to walk along although it is very windy which sometimes interferes with planned water activities.
Thankfully, we vacationed with great friends and having them in our company helped to make the most out of this holiday which we had planned for quite some time.
We would not go back to this resort, mostly due to the staff's attitudes, and would definitely not rate this as a 4 star resort; it is a 3 star on a good day!

“Something to remember”

Just returned from a 1 week vacation at the Sol Cayo Coco in Cayo Coco. A bit windy is the only negative on 3rd week of January. Food was very good, lots of variety. Very clean resort. Lots to do, beautiful environment. Pleasant people. Great place for a relaxing time, if you want city stuff this is not the place as there are only 7 resorts on this island.

I made friends with 3 other couples and I reserved a taxi at the front desk for a day trip into Moron and Ciego de Avila. Carlos, the friendly driver showed up in a large air conditioned van and spent the day showing us around both towns, was very accomodating, he tooks us where we wanted and made some suggestions as well. The cost was $140, divided by all, turned out to be $17.50 each. We also tipped him because he receives a very small salary. You can tell "Guest Services" that you are spending the day out and they will prepare a basket with free lunch for all. We got an abundance of sandwiches, pop, water, fruit and cookies.

On the subject of gifts and tips...those people who work behind the scenes such as kitchen staff, gardiners and grounds cleaning ladies do not get any. We made sure everytime we passed a gardener we would offer a drink and we made small packages with clothes and toiletries for them. Just to give you an idea...they make $10 cuc a month and it costs them approx. $9 cuc for a t-shirt or $4 for a shampoo.

On your return, at the airport you might be approached by some people who will flash you some Canadian or American coins which they have received as tips. All they want is for you to exchange it in Cuban pesos. Cubans cannot exchange foreign small change at their banks, so this small change is useless to them. They will be very grateful, so keep a few pesos to exchange for a few dollars.

Have a good vacation.
