Just got back from mcc a few days ago and throughly enjoyed it . Would highly recommend this hotel. We did a twin centre 1st night was at NH Krystal cayo coco - alright for one night. Then we transferd to havana by plane for three nights then the last 10 nights were spent at the melia. This was a good combination as after the hustle and bustle of havana we needed a rest.
Rooms - we stayed in a standard garden room, very nice. After reading some of the reviews I thought we may have been a bit disapointed and was wondering whether it would have been worth upgrading to the laguna ones but we were very pleased with the room. I think you do get some extras in the other rooms like cd players more room ect. We was on the ground flour so had a patio with a bit of a garden which was very nice. You get the basics in the mini bar - bottle of water each day that the maid brings then someone else comes round for mini bar you get 2x beer 4x soft drinks which is filled most days. You also get a tolitries pack which comes in a handy bag. There is also a free safe in room.
Pool - very nice pool which is perfect just to sit in and cool down
in the afternoon the entertainment team organise pool games,. The only problem with the pool area is that people save shaded parts with their towls then do not come back for ages any how the pool area can get very hot the beach is cooler and more relaxing and is alot eaiser to get shade.
Beach - very nice beach good to cool down, also nice to sit and have a drink and watch the sun set. In the day the waiter comes round with drinks also the entertainment team organises beach activities.
Food - Buffet restuarant was the best restuarant, been to lots of all inclusive hotels before this is the best buffet restuarant - surroundings and service very good also you can get fresh meat and fish cooked for you while you wait the same with the pasta bar and crep bit near the ice cream.
Steak house - very good ate here twice relaxed surroundings near the beach pritty good steak and good service. the best out of the al la carts
International restuarant - found this a more formal environment the choice here was very good and nice setting for a change.
Italian - not bad worth eating once. The starters you choose yourself were very nice dessert not bad but found starter and main a bit salty ashame realy as found the service in this restuart the most attentive.
24 hr snack bar - ate somthing here every day whether it was a sandwich becase we missed breakfast or a snack before we got ready for dinner or pizza at 2 after going out dancing more about that later! Again for a snack bar the standards were very high.
Drinks
plenty of places to get drinks - the beach bar is more limited for cocktails but the main bar and the 24hr place near the pool has a fully stocked bar. The lobby bar does slushy style drinks which I loved even without the rum but my huspand perfered them at the pool bar. The liqures are also very nice after dinner. Pina coldas, rum and coke, beer and wine were also very nice.
Nightlife
Yes there is nightlife on cayo coco wed night is cave night the first week the little train came to collect us it worked out at about £10 each to get there and back get in and open bar would highly recomend going there. The sol next door is alright you get a pass from reception its free to go and to drink there. We went on thursday I think tues are good to. Then there was another independant club we went to on fridays first week a coach picked us up. The best thing to do is ask the entertainment staff they are in the know of where to go at night.
The evening entertainment at hotel is good the shows are entertaining they also had a beach party with dancing!
Trips
We did three trips
Catermaran - this is alright if you like snorkling and swiming this is great you also visit pilar beach on this trip. This trip can get cancled for many reasons but you can easliy rebook for next day like we had to. If you can not swim this is not the best trip to do as the day we went you had to swim ashore ands back onto boat there are life jackets though. Also we had to eat lunch on boat would have liked to get off and eat on dry land.
Moron spectacular trip - very good value for money about £50 each did alot that day - boat down river, crocadile farm, horse and carrage, sugar factory, cigar factory, moron and another little town you also got lunch as well. very good if you do not like sitting on a coach for two long.
Trinadad - this was our favorite trip alot of traving but worth it trinadad was very interesting and lunch was in a resturant here the best lunch out of all three trips shopping was good at the markets, This trip is worth doing even if you go to havana.
A couple of other things we did
bikes you can hire them for 1 hr for free not bad but very trying in the heat they do organise bike rides for alot longer but I think this would be to long when it is very hot. we also got a massage which was very good.
To sum up all in all a verry good holiday we went to varadaro a couple of years ago and actually like cayo coco more it felt less comercial even though cayo coco is only for tourists. the people were so nice I must give a special mention to Aylec and Toqui from the entertainment team who were especially friendly all of the entertainment team go out of thier way to create fun but these two were especally nice and realy looked after us. Also rico who does the night shift at the 24hr plece is a very kind pacient man who loves his job and is very good at it. The same goes for George the first choice rep a very nice man who will go out of his way to say helo and make sure you are having a good tme - the best rep we have ever had.
So have good time at the melia who ever is lucky enough to be going would highly recommemd this hotel I think it is the best in the cayos.
If any one has any Q,s feel free to email me and I will try to help.
