This was our first time in Cuba so we were not sure exactly where to stay. There are so many mixed reviews about this hotel but our experience was a fantastic one. Although our flight was delayed several hours without an explanation, the wait was worth it.

The staff at this hotel – all of the staff from servers to bartenders, gardeners, maids and security guards, etc. were phenomenal. They truly went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and valued.

The hotel itself is not in the greatest of shape but it is very clean. The food was tasty, especially at the beach restaurant La Picua (fresh fish everyday!). The beach was clean and always patrolled by security which made you feel safe leaving your camera, etc. while you were in the water. The disco at night time was empty but the deejay was willing to play the music we had brought with us.

We will definitely go back to this hotel and recommend it to other couples as well as people traveling with children.

“Fantastic Holiday alround”

Tryp Cayo Coco

First of all i also was reading the reviews on the trip advisor every day for weeks before we went to the Tryp cayp coco.
Yes, i thought about cancelling our family holiday due to all the bad reveiws but im so glad i didnt. We had a amazing holiday, i wish i was still there drinking the different cocktails whilst looking out over the crystal clear ocean...
There is so many things to talk about but im a little short for time, but needed to put my review on to reasure people before going.

We also ask to move rooms on the 1st day ( only because we requested a sea view) within 2 hours they moved us to a sea/pool view.Reception were happy to move you without any problems.

Due to the rain the mosquitos were all out, but the hotel morning and night had a guy driving a buggy around pumping out smoke trying there very best to keep them at bay. I did have to visit the doctor on site for a charge of 38 pesto ( £18) within hours i started to feel better, the charge covered the next day to see the nurse aswell.I did see the doctor several times walking around the hotel after and he always stopped me to see how i was---i dont think you would get that treatment everywhere, not even at home.I would recommend you to visit your doctors back home before your hols, if the insects love you ,like they do me and get thebest insect repellant you can get..

FOOD- We enjoyed all the restaurants, we did not always book. ( we did tip, and eat in a la Carte every night- So get to know the staff...and that you get in any.
The pizza snack bar is not like home, but its ok.
Overall with the food was good but(remember this is cuba not America or Uk )
Yes you do miss things from back home but thats because we are use to having this around us.
You will never go hungry Enjoy!!!

Suncream- I took alot of low factors because thats normally what i use. We nearly ran out, and they only had factor 30 in the shop which cost about £10. Take all the suncreams you will need for the full holiday.

We did the Havana overnight stay booked throught the rep on site cost 295 pestos around £ 150. This was worth it just to see the real cuba. The hotel was 5 star where you stay, you see all the sights and go to worlds famous Tropicana show.Food and drinks were all included.
We also went on the Sea safari trip cost 60 pestos £30 for 3.5 hrs this includes fishing, coral reef snorkeling, than you go to THE BEST BEACH IN THE WORLD...THIS WAS BREATH TAKING.
There was only 4 of us on one boat with the 2 guys.
We caught 2 baracuda fish .
This is a must if you enjoy all the above.

The rooms have everything in them you need for your holiday, they may not be 4 star , but very clean, and cleaned everyday by the maids. Clean towels every day.Lets face it you only sleep in there why would you spend any more time when paradise is outside...

The 2 guys who work in the Cuban restaurant Luis and Refiel were lovely and made us feel very welcome, whenever we saw them whether it was working on the other bars, they would always serve us first with a smile...

I would recomend the following items to take..

A travel mug if you like long drinks Eg A pint of lager, because the glasses are small but than your drink will stay cold.

Suncreams lots of whatever factor you use, but i did use higher than normal. When it get hot ...its very hot.

Insect repellant a well known brand.

Gifts for the maid and bar staff, they really look after you and donot have much. There love football tops/ baseball caps but that up yo you.I brought pens for the maids children and face creams for her ( i also took some extra tubes of toothpaste and vitamins to give them ) The waiters had the hats, which they loved...

The entertainment staff try all day long to keep everyone happy and enjoying there holiday.

I could explain more but no time if you would like to know anything more please email me , i will be glad to help.

Overall a SUPER HOLIDAY, im jealous of any who is going....

This hotel is ok- it is wise to remember that it has not been classified its rating as UK hotels. Our room was lovely, two double beds, air conditioned and cleaned every day- the maid was wonderful.

The two pools were great, although I have to be honest and never saw them being cleaned.

The staff were very friendly and would look after you, especially if you tipped them (1 peso= about 50p) The locals would do anything for extra tips make hats, grasshoppers and birds from the leaves.

The beach is the most spectacular I have ever seen, clean, sandy and three colours of blue in the sea- this is paradise!

We did have a few problems- 2 days of rain and 2 overcast days, but our biggest problem was the pesky mosquitos- we both got bit- my advice is to take repelant for 6 months, buy sun tan cream and after sun both with repelant and you may be lucky!

We went to the drs as my husband had an infection from his bites- there is a dr on site but is 25 pesos just to be seen, in total cost us about £30, however, after this whenever the dr saw us on the resort she would ask how we both were and saw us again for no charge- would your gp ask after you if he saw you in the street??

The food was ok- not great but not terrible- we both ate every day the burgers, pizza and pasta were great!

Im not convinced this hotel gives a true feeling of cuba and if we go back, we would not stay on one of these complexes.

“Definitely not a 4Stars”

Tryp Cayo Coco

We are two girls in the late twenties from Québec, Canada and we stayed at the Tryp for 2 weeks at the end of May 2007.
On arrival, we were really disgusted by the look of our room... (Pictures 1&2) Thought we'd switch for a better one, but comes out they're all the same... Briefly, the room is tiny, two double beds are put together and the smell of humidity is obvious... The floor appeared dirty but it was clean, just stained from overuse. Our patio door would not unlock until the cleaning lady showed us that we had to literally lift the handle (and the door) about one inch so the locket could be move downward to unlock the door... After two days there, our toilet started to run water out continuously so it didn’t flush down anymore. We went twice to complain about it at the Guest Service, and even though they assured us a plumber would pass by our room the very same day to fix it, it never happened (both times !). We tried to fix the problem ourselves, but in the interior of the main tank, is another smaller tank that we were unable to open and appears the problem was in there... So we flushed the toilet using the trashcan we’d filled with water from the shower... To make it even worse, we had two entire days without cold water so we tried to shower in freaking burning hot water... Happens that there was a problem with the main cold water duck for 3 blocks on the resort. On 3 occasions during our stay, both our card(key) for the room were inactivated. The last time, they told us is was caused from the humidity (?) so they send an electrician over to fix the cardreader on the door... Took about 2 hours. So overall, we’d give a 1star for the room ! Lets just say our mattress were comfortable and we got good nights of sleep even though every morning at 6 o’clock, a fire-extinguisher plane flies by back-and-forth to spray insecticide... So prepare to be woken up at 6 !

For the rest of the resort, we’d give a 2 or 3 stars... The entire property would need a massive paint-refreshing job. Other than that, the Staffs are really nice and service is unexpectedly rapid. Food was OK, not delightful but not bad ! Restaurants were good : the beat overall is definitely the International, then second would come the Italian. The Seafood restaurant was not as good as we expected though... We didn’t get to try the Cuban et and the Grill but we heard it was good but you need a lot of BugSpray or else you end up going crazy with mosquito bites before you even get to the main course ! Other than BugSpray, definitely don’t forget a RainCoat if you’re going at this time of the year (Rain Season) : it did rain every single day we were there. It was our first time in the Caribbean at this time of the year, and we should never return : too much risk of getting like us two weeks of bad weather... but hey, that just happens sometimes...

The beach is nice and clean (Pictures 3&4). There was enough chairs for everyone (low season right now). We did the City tour to Moron and Ciego the Avila and we would recommend it(79$). We also went to the Centro de Thalassotherapia (55$) and would also recommend it. Treatments and Massage were good and the pools were awesome (Picture 5)!

Hopefully this review will be helpful, complete and not too exhausting !
