Its my second year in a row goin' to cayo coco and I love it!
Last year I was stayin at the Sol.My opinion, I do think the Blau colonial
is ALOT better.
I'm 26 years old female from Montreal, flew with sunwing,
departure on EAster.it was Very cheap :)
I went there alone

ROOM:I had a supersaver room (not renovate). I couldnt complain I had 2 doubles for one skinny girl! lol
It was very clean and I had no problems wit hot water.

FOODS: BUFFET:OK im very very picky..I wasnt crazy about the buffet.not too many choice, but I did
like the breakfast.Excellent service also. You can either eat indoor or outdoor.
RESTAURANT A LA CARTE: ..I went to the el dorado ( seafood) and had a lobster tail ( 15pesos). it was delicious, just let
them know in advance when you make reservation!
All the waiters and staff are very polite, and Lovely,so dont give them hard times!
they're 3 restaurants a la carte (cuban,italian,seafood)

BEACH:
water was sooooo warm, nice waves.amazing (check out my pics)!! I didnt see any jellyfish
which is a goodthing, compare to last year in january it was all over the place! wake up early if u wanna reserve your spot!

Animation:.. Games on the beach around 10am-11am almost everyday (volleyball-competition team)!
They have shows everynights in the disco. after 11pm-2am it turn into a club
playin disco,reggeaton.salsa.
You can also go clubbin outside the resort
a la Cueva de jabali(the cave) (10 pesos)..on thursday i think/and at the salsatheque @ the sol cayococo on wednesday
where a cuban band play ! Everyone meet from differents hotels.its alot of fun.
just ask animacion team for info.

OVERALL.I had such a goodtimes, made lots of friends(tourists & cubans). There's was many
french canadians at the Blau.So it was fun!!they just love us over
there.Bring them some musique Quebecoise,si vous pouvez!! Dont forget to tips, they're hard working.

I didnt had any problems wit kids
running around or screaming, they have their own mini-club.

Do take the trip outside to see
the real cuban life! It worth it!

Its a beautiful resort well maintained.I would defenetly go back for a 3rd year in a row!! :)

Miss everyone over there..see ya soon!

*if you can print some pics & bring them. They love to receive the pictures

Did not like the Blau and will not return, the only positive's were the beach and the spacious room, the food was okay, the entertainment was not that good, the service was horrible, my son got sick and so did a few other guests, the pool was not that great for swimming, Well the only good thing was being at the beach all day, the cuban men working there were coming on to every female it was quite disgusting to watch

Only half my power worked, coffee pot did not work and this is a 4*

the steps to the beach were dangerous and in need of repair

the guy who exchanged your money ripped me off so many times, I exchanged the same amount everytime and got a different amount everytime, 7 cup for 10.00 canadian what is up with that?? a few times I got more if someone honest happened to be working, I will not go back to the Blau because of the dishonet guy working at the exchange, Talked to a few other females and they got ripped off too, they never ripped off my son of course, a male

I stayed at 3* before and enjoyed my stay much better, the workers here are tip crazy, whats up with that? a tip before service, I do not understand that concept, you tip if you had received great service,

the boy who worked in the restaurant was excellent and recieved superior service and Liber the bartenter was excellent too the maid was excellent too

The excusion to the coral reef from the beach was excellent too

the place as you can see in the pics are beautiful, if you want no service and just lay on the beach and this place can be for you

“Wouldn't go back”

Blau Colonial Hotel

Montreal, Quebec

I stayed at the Blau from the 19th-26th of April with my mother, and both of us having stayed at 5 stars before, we agree that this hotel isn't even close. At tops, I'd give it a 3, and thats being generous.

I won't go into the little details that everyone already knows about (i.e.: food is unoriginal, tasteless and repetetive), but rather I'll just mention the most important things that stick out.

First of all, not everything is bad. Cayo Coco itself is gorgeous, the beach and the water is amazing.
The weather was great, sunny all week (except for one morning around 7 it rained for 20 minutes), and temps were well over 30C.
The maid, who seemed to be the only staff member to treat us with respect, was efficient, usually having the room done by 11 am. She even left us a note to thank us and say goodbye.
There are a few stores with nice things, but mind you, dont leave everything til the last minute, cause even though they have opening times in their window, they dont always stick to them.

The things I didn't like were:

- Some of the staff is impolite and acts as if they have better things to do than serve you. Now i know you get better service if you tip, but at the Blau, even tippers are treated with disregard. Just the act of getting orange juice in the morning, which is sitting on a table 2 feet away from ours, takes forever. Also, when calling for the bellboy to come get your luggage (if you're leaving early in the morning like us), plan on calling at least 30 minutes ahead, cause we waited that long and he never showed! Also, when checking out we weren't even wished a safe flight or a good day.

-Another thing which annoyed me was the fact that our room had no bathroom door. There is a frosted half door/window that seperates the toilet, bidet and shower from the rest of the bathroom, but that doesn't really count when sharing a room with someone, if you know what i mean. Apparently this is the "Colonial" style, but if our room is modern enough to have A/C, then why can't it also have a bathroom door?

-The A/C is noisy, sometimes actually waking us up with its motor going nuts

- The food...try and find some! Here's the biggest problem i had with the Blau. If you think its like other resorts, where you can always find food, even if its just hot dogs + sandwiches, you're wrong. The Buffet's serving times are from 7:30-10, 12-3, 6-10:30. The grill by the pool, which serves the same things everyday, only serves food until 3. Therefore, if you happen to get hungry between 3 and 6, you only have one spot to go to, and thats the little coffee shop near the buffet. And even then, you only have the choice of 5-6 sandwiches, thats it! (I recommend the chicken).
So basically, if you want to eat, you need to plan your day accordingly. And none of these places are near the beach, so you also have to walk a little to get somewhere.
There is also only one bar by the beach, which is pretty long, another inconvienience. But as everyone stated, Liber, the bartender at that bar is a sweetheart!

Walking...make sure you like it, cause this place is huge! The walk from our building (18, room 1832) to the reception was at least 7-10 minutes! Maybe its me, but I like my resorts to be smaller, where everything is close together.

-There's only one pool, which isn't very deep, or well maintained.

- The internet is 3 pesos for 30 minutes and 5 for an hour. But trust me, you'll need the hour, cause it takes forever. after a few tries, 30 minutes got me into my email, let me read one email, and reply. Thats it.

Overall, I would return to Cayo Coco but not the Blau. I never wanted to leave somewhere so badly, and I have never been treated like such a nuisance anywhere! The place was empty (don't know if it was the dead season or just cause it's horrible), but it seemed like a ghost town most of the time.

P.S: We went on the Spectacular tour of Moron and Ciego de Avila, and I would definitely recommend you stay away! The lagoon boat ride and the aligator farm were interesting, but the towns were another thing. The minute you get off the bus for "free time" you are hounded by residents begging you for things. I understand its not a rich country, but it was a little excessive, and we all felt anxious to get back on the bus.

VERY IMPORTANT: if you do go on a city tour, bring your own toilet paper, cause if you want to use any bathroom in the city, there will always be someone keeping the TP and trying to sell it to you by the square! We brought our own kleenex, thank god!

“The most amazing resort I have stayed at”

Blau Colonial Hotel

I have just returned from a week staying at this fabulous resort and cannot wait to return next year! Upon arriving on Saturday night we were greeted at the front desk by friendly and polite staff who accomodated any questions we had. Upon reaching our room we found it to be very spacious and clean. As there were three of us travelling together we had one king size bed and a cot, which was just as comforable as the bed. The bathroom was also very spacious, and it was nice to have the shower and toilet seperate from the sink with swinging doors as we were all girls and needed the space. The rooms were well cleaned every day with the maid even folding our clothes and lining up our shoes, they were also very accomodating to our needs, most importantly extra towels.

The resort is very well laid out, with the majority of things close together, the disco, 24 hour bar and buffet restaurant are all close to the courtyard and main building. The Italian a la carte is also near this, in the evening check out the piano bar here too. Close to this there is also a building full of various stores where you can buy souveneirs, alcohol, cigars, etc... Also daily behind the lobby building there are locals selling various items. The nightly entertainment was always well put on and fun, involving the audience nightly in the Blau Resort Dance. Some of the best nights were the Carnival Night, the Beach Party Night in which all of the entertainment was on the beach, and the Miss Blau Colonial Pagaent.

The resort is very clean and well maintained, we constantly saw gardeners working. They even gave us some coconuts to try. The pool is clean and well maintained, with lots of lounge chairs available in the sun or the shade. There is also the miniclub for kids located next to the pool, and an area to play pool, pin pon, etc... The pool bar and grill is also located here, they serve great food here at lunch, and in the evening it turns into a Cuban restaurant complete with live entertainment. All of the Villas are close together and in walking distance to everything. The beach is absolutely beautiful, with beach huts to sit under when you find the sun too hot. We took advantage of the free activities too, snorkeling, kayaking, and the hobby cat boats. There is also horseback riding available, and a mini train that goes between resorts. One night a week you can go with others from the resort and the entertainment staff on one of these trains to a disco called The Cave, which is a disco inside a bat cave, one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time.

All of the restaurants are clean with lots of selection, and friendly service. The buffet restaurant was pleasant, as you could eat inside or out. Next to restaurant check out the little stand that makes these little donut things, the man is very friendly and funny. Check out the beach bar, Liber the bar tender is amazing, he is so friendly and always joking. He loves it if you bring him a cd, primarily rock, but as a joke I told him I would bring him one of Justin Timberlake, he didn't like that so much. Just ask him to make you a surprise and trust me you will like them.

The best part of this resort is the staff, they are always smiling and friendly. Anything you need they will try and help you. Overall this resort definately deserves the five star rating it holds.

Me and my family stayed there.. April 14th - April 21st..

We stayed in room 2006. when we got there the place was a mess water all over the floors, its grose how some people leave a room when they leave.. we called reception to get the room cleans because it was getting late and took them about 3 hours to finally get in there and clean in it..

We had beautiful weather.. one day it was cloudy rest of the days hot and sunny. The place is very nice but i wouldn't go back with family but i would for sure with a boyfriend/friends. We walked over to Tryp that place was beautiful i would recommend that place. We went on a boat/snorkeling excursion 41 peso's id recommend that it was fun you got to drive your own boats. and you got a snorkeling souvenir to.
The 2nd day there i got sick and still today i am sick i don't know what i got sick from. The food there i hated everything i ate just went right threw us all.! I am very picky the only food i enjoyed was the pizza at Yarey and the Ham and Cheese sandwiches at the 24 hr bar... those were yummy. Beach was beautiful staff were friendly. but i did not enjoy this one lifeguard there.. harassing all the girls that come there... the bugs were horrible! and even worse in the Cuba airport there were swarms of them EW! .. but overall the place is pretty. i would go back but like i said with friends or a boyfriend.. i was pretty bored the whole time there and couldn't wait to go home.
