I just came from Jacmel and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. My husband and I spent one day in Port-au-Prince and the remaining of our trip in Jacmel.
We stayed in La Belle Jacmelienne; the hotel is not so clean (but ok) and way too expensive for about $ 80 US a night for a standard room without a TELEVISION. When we complained about not having a TV in our room for that much amount of money per night, we were told to get a TV in our room they will charge us an extra 20 US dollars extra per night. We were stoned to find out that a TV is considered as a luxury in this hotel. Besides of that, they gave us a big breakfast in the morning, it is a great place to hang out because of the beachfront ocean and beautiful mountains surround it.
OOps!!! mosquitoes are all over in the room, apparently the owner (the manager) does not care about eradicating them.
My husband could never sleep with mosquitoes singing in his ears every seconds. Finally you had to move out to sleep somewhere else in Jacmel.

This apparently used to be "the place to stay" in Jacmel, but it most definitely is no longer. The story is apparently that the owners divorced and without the wife, who used to run the place, the quality rapidly went downhill.

In any event, my own experience here was awful. Indifferent and even hostile reception and housekeeping staff, loss of water and power at random times throughout my stay, very uncomfortable beds, and terrible lighting.

Worst of all the rooms are swarming with mosquitoes, and no bed net was provided. I ended up borrowing a bed net from a friend and setting it up myself. Probably killed 20-30 mosquitos every morning.

Visited both Florita and Cyvadier Plage, and both seemed much nicer, though the latter is a fair distance from Jacmel proper.

My partner and I just spent 11nights/12days at this hotel, and well I have not quite seen anything this terrible in my entire life, and I have traveled all over, Africa included.
For starter, the hotel IS NOT what they tell you it is over the telephone. They said that is was a beautiful hotel on the beach. First of all, the beach is worthless, it has garbage all over it, and I mean everywhere like to the max, everywhere. So, yeah, that sounds nice let's take our towels to the beach and lie in the trash. And another added perk to the beach was you got the joy of watching pigs and goats eat the trash. Therefore, no beach.
The swimming pool at the hotel had too much algae in it to even remotely consider swimming in it. Therefore, no pool.
This hotel runs at a rate of about $US&, plus 10% tax per night with a very small breakfast. The rooms are dirty, only a sheet on the bed, electricity is only available during certain hours of the day. There were times when we had to feel our way around in the night. Quite dangerous.
Another thing is leaving the property, tourists are followed and harrassed for $$$$$$. These people would follow us all over town. There was this one old lady who said that she was a teacher and wanted us to give, she bothered us for the whole stay there. And they there was Lucien, who would follow us everywhere hounding us for money. All in all, this was the worst vacation that I have ever had in my life and would not ever recommend anyone to go to this hotel or Haiti for that matter.
There are so many nice places in the entire Caribbean that are also so much easier and stress-free to go to, why Haiti???!!!

La Jacmelienne was in my opinion the best hotel i've ever had the chance to stay in. The service;the ambiance;the pool and the food were excellent.Nightclubs are in the area;but not too close for a night out; Bassin Bleu is one of the places i recommend each and every one to visit. Theres a lot of Americains;Canadians;French living in Jacmel and aren't planing to leave any time soon. As for the hotel itself;I just can't wait to go back there this coming christmas and find my room right in front of the ocean.
