“There is literally no better place to stay on the entire island”

We stayed 4 nights in Culebra from March 3rd- March7th 2007. Posada la hamaca was PERFECT. I mean I'm reading some of these people's reviews and they must have stayed at a different place than I did. Six of my friends and I went to Culebra for Spring Break and had the most incredible time.

Posada la Hamaca is nice man. All the appliances were new. Everything was very clean. It was plenty of room for all 7 of us. It had 4 full beds. Everyday they had a cooler for us to us with fresh towels. I mean for all that and the location you can't beat $200 a night 7 ways. And once again LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.

We arrived in Culebra at the airport around 5pm. Took a taxi into town for $2 a person. Santo (the dudes name) gave us his card and for the 5 days drove us anywhere we wanted to go for $2 dollars. Every time we called him he was there in less than 5 mins, no joke.

The location is amazing I mean you are 30 seconds from 2 grocery stores, a liquor store, Mamacita's (the best restaurant we went to the entire time), Dingy Docks (the best bar we went to the entire time), Pan Deli (the best cheap place to eat breakfast or lunch), and in the heart of anything relevant in the town of Dewey.

We spent our first day at Flamenco and still can't believe what we saw. I mean I have looked at the pictures every hour on the hour since we have gotten back. We spent most the day there and then spent the night at the bar of Mamacitas enjoying live music. Then we went to Dingy Docks where the nice people of Mamacitas go when they close to drink. We had an awesome time the owner of Dingy Docks was giving us free shots and sitting there talking with us giving us tips about where to go and what to do.

The second day we went to Carlos Rosario Beach for snorkeling and once again still can't even believe what we saw. We had seen 20+ pound fish tropical blue, neon green, and pink. I mean it was nuts. We spent most of the day there. And went to Dingy Dock's for dinner. Dingy Docks is awesome for lunch and breakfast but don't really waste your time for dinner. They had good food but an insanely small variety considering what they have for breakfast and lunch.

The third day we spent most of the day at the Wildlife refuge snorkeling. Once again it was really cool. There were plenty of beautiful coral and insanely colored plant life. If you want to see insane fish head to Carlos Rosario (haha which you have to walk through an old mine field to get to) but if u want to see incrediable coral the refuge is your place.

The fourth day we called Santo and he took us to Zoni for $5 dollars a pop. Once again almost as beautiful as Flamenco but no one around. It was a mile of beach and excluding us there may have been 7 people. Side note though if you do head there haha tell the taxi driver when you want to be picked up because we all had cell phones and all had service but none of it worked even though we had bars. We had to walk a hilly 1/2 mile before it went through. The beach was also just insane. It redefines natural beauty.

On the fifth day we caught the ferry out to Fajardo and then to Vieques. By the way the ferry is the cheapest thing ever and a beautiful ride. My girlfriend and I decided to buy tickets to Fajardo and then to Vieques all from the port in Culebra for both of us combine... it was $4.00. By far the best value of the trip. Its a smooth hour ferry both ways and it was nothing but enjoyable.

“Travel Channel Review Must Have Been Biased!”

Posada la Hamaca

Just returned from two wonderful weeks in PR, three nights of which included Posada la Hamaca. I reserved there because on the recommendation of the Travel Channel.

These rooms are TEENY. There were three of us, and the first room we were in required a roll-away bed that we all had to crawl over to get to the bathroom. It's a good thing there is storage for luggage outside the room, because there is no room for luggage in the rooms.

We switched as soon as a larger room became available, and we were much more comfortable except for an alarm clock going off all night long in a room down the hall. Not realizing the significance of Three Kings Day, we unfortunately were there at a very busy time with lots of parties. The rooms don't have glass - just metal louvers, which make it ideal for hearing absolutely everything going on all around you.

I would recommend getting a room that faces the street rather than the water. On the water side, you hear all the partying at Mamacita's and Dinghy Dock as well as whatever is going on downstairs on the patio at La Hamaca. Traffic noises were also worse on the water side because of the bumping of vehicles over the drawbridge right outside the windows. Street side rooms were definitely quieter.

Flamenco is stunning; Zoni is worth the trip - unbelievably beautiful; Melones had the best snorkeling - even better than Carlos Rosario or Tamarindo.

Ginny, the manager at Posada la Hamaca, was very friendly and helpful. She made the inconvenience seem not so bad. Culebra is worth the trip!

“Very bad”

I was recommended Pasada la Hamaca from someone on the mainland. I think they must have been trying to hook up their buddy that owned the place. It was really bad- the room was dirty, there was no air conditioning at the time and there was a big ladder in the bathroom when we walked in. I walked into the room and saw mosquitoes flying around the room that were the size of a Mini Cooper. I ended up leaving the key at the front desk and splitting. I went down the road and got a nicer room at Villa Boheme.

“Not so good.”

I must preface by saying that I understand that Culebra is very slow, laid back, and the "way the Caribbean used to be." That is precisely what brought us here for a two day, one night jaunt from a weeklong Puerto Rico vacation.

However, Posada La Hamaca is FAR too similar to a college dormitory for our tastes. For $30 less per night it might be acceptable, but the tariff we were charged was equal to our much nicer accomodations on Puerto Rico.

Very small room, high-school locker room linoleum tile on the floors, and a bathroom no larger than a closet.

The good? The owner is friendly (as was everyone we encountered on Culebra) and the room is air-conditioned.

There are better options on Culebra.

“room was too small, and too loud”

My wife reserved a week at the Posada La Hamaca online. The rate was $80/day. The room was the absolutely smallest I've stayed in. The room was slightly bigger than the bed. So small that there was no room for: a chair of any kind, a table, or even a closet. As I said, no closet, just a few hooks on the room wall.

The toilet had two signs saying that you needed to not flush your used toilet paper but were required to put it in the waste basket in the bathroom. The sign in English said it was because the toilet clogged. The sign in Spanish said it was for ecological reasons, unstated.

Our first night was on a Saturday. At nine PM sharp, at the neighboring outdoor bar, a few feet from our room, an extremely loud drum band stated up. The drummers were good, but we were tired and wanted to sleep. I was afraid the band would continue nonstop until 2 or 3 in the morning. Fortunately, it stopped at 11 PM sharp. There must be some ordinance in Culebra closing bars down at 11 PM because the customers were pushed out the door at that time, with a police cruiser dropping by a couple minutes later.

We moved to Flamenco Beach Villa a day later for the remainder of our stay on Culebra. The $55 a night extra, per night, was well worth it.

We don't expect a lot when vacationing on the cheap, but this place was really, really bad.
