Culebra Island and the town of Dewey are a real treat. Very laid back, quiet, good restaurants (definitely eat at El Eden and a great bakery near Casa Ensenada.)
Casa Ensenada is a small property - two units plus owners unit. We stayed in the Estudio - lots of space - clean, not luxurious, but just fine. There is a relaxing dock as the property is on the harbor. Owners are very helpful, but Culebra is pretty easy to figure out and get around - so you don't really need a guide. Casa Ensenada is on the edge of town - so easy walk to everything. Publicos take you to the beaches. Flamenco Beach is as beautiful as it is described in the books, along with Zoni Beach.

we were two blocks from the dingy dock or mamacitas two of the livelier bars (also very good restaurants.) Butch and Jackie, our
hosts,were as pleasant and helpful as can be.we stayed in the smaller unit and found it more than adeqate. it was perfectly clean,
with good water pressure and plenty of hot water .
we snorkeled at carlos rosario beach, malones beach. both excellent. malones, is close carlos rosario is more beautiful.
the chicken from the carts at flamenco is the best i can remember.
if it isnot a busy beach day, it can be over cooked. all things considered. we would return to casa ensenada happily.

Stayed here for a week in late September. First few nights in the one bedroom and last 3 nights in the smaller studio. Great location. Contrary to the previous post, although the owners were not in town, there were caretakers at the property every morning and they were very helpful and informative. Took a water taxi to Culebrita one day, and they picked us up right at our dock! I would definitely stay here again.

The place itself is not bad, but don't be surprised when your credit card is charged an extra amount of money once you leave. I really didn't have a problem with the price, room, or owners until about a week after I got home and found that I was charged $50 extra for a cleaning fee. They stated that the towels were dirty and shelves dusty. I thought this was interesting that I was expected to dust the room and do the laundry, especially when you can't use their laundry facilities. Just be aware that they try to scam as much money from you as possible. It has been 4 months and I am still battling with the credit card company over this unauthorized transaction.
