Well...my husband and I just returned from the Tamarind and overall we enjoyed ourselves. It was definatly an adventure being that we traveled all the way from Texas.
We flew into Barbados from Miami, then onto Canoan via Mustique/Grenadine/SVG Airways and the ride over on the charter was definatly one to remember! The pilot put up a sun visor in the winsheild of the plane as we flew and had a window open to let cool air in because there is no a/c ,dispite the lack of oxygen as we increased in alltitude. WOW...that's all I can say. Seemed a bit rediculous being that we spent $400 US p/p rt for this flight. Just thought a plane newer than the 1950's would have been nice.
Another issue was the a/c or lack there of in the hotel room. I made sure I booked a hotel with a/c so I was dissapointed when we arrived at the hotel and the unit was off. Probably about 80 degrees F when we arrived and it semed like 100 degrees due to the ride over in the plane without. Just saying it would have been nice to come into a hotel room with cool air. Also, since the walls in the rooms that face the beach have louvers on them that didn't help the room to cool after a toasty day on the beach.
The linens could definatly used an upgrede or maybe additional cleaning. I don't know if it's beacuse the locals try to preserve water or what but our linens and towels always had a dirty odor. Although they were good about changing them twice daily. That was a plus becuase they became musty very easily due to the warm humid air.
Now onto the food...that was rediculous. I understand that everything has to be imported so it's due for charging double, but triple the price for regular food such as pasta, pizza, and burgers??? Just crazy! Even the water was like $8 US per bottle. The food wasn't bad but just be prepared to spend a good bit of your budget on it.
My last draw back was that I researched about other places to eat in the village so that we were'nt trapped with the same menu over and over and heard about a placed called Crystal Apts. So we asked the receptionist how to get there and even though it was 2mins. away they arranged for someone to drop us off. I asked how much $ we should bring b/c we did'nt want to go into the village with a wad of cash and they said about $20 US for both of us at lunch. So just incase we went over a bit we brought an extra $20. Come to find out after a not so appitizing meal it came to $48 US! What! This lady over triple charged us just becasue she new we were tourists! Just flat out rude...Definatly wouldn't reccoment that place not just because of the price gaulging but the food was ...you get the point.
Ok, enough complaining...The staff were all very kind and friendly, the property was clean, and the island is incredible. Definatly do the charter to the Cays it's worth every penny! We also did a day pass to Raffles and that place is gorgeous! Again definatly worth it. And the spa at Raffles..amazing! All in all, I'd go back in a heart beat just not on the local charter, and I'd spend the extra $ and stay at Raffles where the food and water is much more reasonable and better quality. Also the amenities and overall property is so much more accomodating.
