I stayed here for the July '07 bar exam and it was excellent!! It's very close to the Civic Center where the exam was given (>5 minute drive) and you can even take back roads to avoid traffic. Room was very clean and had reliable high speed internet. Shower was excellent. The hotel had a nice continental breakfast in the morning which was good for before the bar, and coffee and cookies throughout the day. The staff was very friendly & helpful - we accidentally forgot an electric toothbrush there after we left, and they sent it to us in the mail. Pool was not awesome, but that didn't matter since I wasn't planning on swimming while I was there anyway. If you don't mind staying in a hotel full of people also taking the bar, this is the place to be!

Very nice hotel. Clean rooms. Great breakfast, lots of food to choose from. Very friendly staff. Best hotel in Roanoke.

I travel lots - this was a typical HI Express. No mold or any nasty stuff. Good location near downtown area where you can eat at non-chain restaurants!

For the price, 100 a night, I was very disappointed. Do a lot of travelling and this hotel was not worth the money. This hotel was booked primarily for the pool and the pictures of what appeared to be clean, if not fancy, rooms. I opted for the King Leisure room, since I thought it would be nice to have a couch (listed in the room description).

First disappointment: no couch.

Second disapointment: pool hours. The pool was open from 10am until 9pm. One of the two mornings I stayed, it opened late (11:00). Bummer hours to get in some early morning or evening swims. Seems the pool is only open when hotel guests are not at the hotel. With the pool area closed and having a morning to kill, I decided to go sit outside for a bit, but alas, not even a bench or a chair to sit on. Spent my time kicking it curbside, doing the NYT crossword at ground level.

Third disappointment: room quality. There was a hole that had been burned into the bedspread, the carpets were filthy, and I made the mistake of looking at the showerhead when I was getting clean one morning.... mold, mold, and that's right, more mold.

On the plus side, although the hotel is not located in the finest part of town, it is very convenient to both downtown Roanoke and the Civic center and the staff was friendly enough.

If I knew what I was getting for my money, I would have stayed elsewhere. I could have handled 50-60 for the room and had no complaints, as my expectations would have been lower.
