“Wonderful experience: beutiful B&B, great owners, lovely grounds”

Husband and I spent a weekend at High Meadows. The inn has been beutifully updated. The interior is cozy and inviting and the grounds are expansive enough to take long walks without interuption. The owners/staff were wonderful. They are experienced B&B owners and did a great job of making our stay comfortable and relaxing. Will be back in the area in January and am planning on a repeat visit.

“Loved the Inn and its new owners”

Since the previous 3 reviews were written new owners have bought and refurbished the Inn. Our visit was a pleasure from start to finish, from the cookies, crackers, hot cider, tea and good company that awaited us in the breezeway when we arrived, to our incredibly comfortable room and ending with the delicious (and more than ample) breakfast the next morning--the pumpkin-apple muffins were out of this world!
We were forced to shorten our visit due to a family emergency. The owners could not have been more accomodating, and we will definitely go back as soon as we can for another visit.

“Wonderful Stay”

I totally agree with the reviewer from Fort Mill SC, we stayed at the Scottsville Suite and enjoyed the cleanliness of the room/bathroom. The hosts are one of the friendliest we have met. We looked out of the window to a lovely garden and patio where dinner is served during the warm months. We loved the family room where guests get together for appetizers and wine served by Kevin. He gave us the tour of the B&B and talked about the vineyards. I thought the chef's presentation about the menu and how he had prepared the meal for us just before the five course Dinner was served downstairs was an added bonus. Service at both Dinner and Breakfast were excellent. Next morning we had a sit down breakfast including freshly made vegetable frittata, bacon, muffins, whipped butter, pancakes, brewed coffee and fruit juice. What more can you ask for in a large B&B?

“High Meadows is a Delightful B&B!”

My husband, 12 year old son and I just returned from a three night stay at High Meadows Vineyard Inn and had a wonderful experience. We are seasoned B&B travelers, and would be hard pressed to find a more pleasant setting or a more accommodating staff. Two couples do indeed own High Meadows and we met all of them and found them delightful (along with Kevin, the son of Peter and Jae, who serves as one of the innkeepers). We ate there two of the three nights and found the food to be excellent, and the prices reasonable for the quality (and quantity) of food served. Terry, the chef, was very accommodating at creating vegetarian dishes for me and our son, and Kevin suggested some wonderful Virginia wines to accompany our food. Breakfasts were always two courses and very hearty and delicious. We stayed in the Scottsville suite in the portion of the inn that dates backs to 1832, and found our accomodations to be spacious and comfortable (although the stairs were a little steep.) Our son, Nick, played horseshoes outside, visited the horses on a neighboring property, and enjoyed playing chess with my husband in the evening. Our innkeepers were helpful in supplying directions to nearby attractions (Monticello, Ashlawn, Michie Tavern, Montpelier, and UVA) so the three days we spent there flew by. I'm not sure what the other reviewer's problem was, but I thought that it was not a very helpful or accurate review since our experience at High Meadows was completely different. We found it to be a wonderfully friendly inn and would certainly consider returning in the future.

“Not recommended”

One of our biggest complaints was that there was no "homey", "hospitable" feeling. The establishment is owned by two people or two couples and is run by the son of one of the owners. Definitely an investment (rather than a passion) for the owners. It is run more like a business than a bed and breakfast.

We had dinner one night and it was good but both of the breakfasts were horrible....I had to request toast. We had a better breakfast at the Hampton Inn and that was a continental breakfast!

Another complaint is that, in addition to the state and local taxes, they added an additional 10% "gratuity" charge It appears it may have been for cleaning the room (we never got a satisfactory explanation) but I would have expected that would be included in the base price. Wouldn't you?

We were on our honeymoon and my husband had never been to a bed and breakfast. After this experience, it is going to be difficult to get him to try another B&B.
