“Pet friendly and low weekend rates”

Hampton Inn Springfield

I was traveling north and needed a nice place to stay for one night and a hotel that accepted pets. Thanks to the great reviews on Trip Advisor I make my Hampton Inn reservations online. This Hampton Inn is one of the very few that accepts pets, without a service fee and you are not limited to a floor or smoking room. I was shocked by the low weekend rate of $89.00 plus tax, which brought it up to $97.00 for a king study.

The location is very easy to get to and to get out of - on and off I-95 or the Beltway. Situated among multi-story office buildings you will find the Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn and Hilton all pretty much a stones throw away. An easy walk brings you to a strip mall that has Barnes and Noble (Starbucks), Bed Bath & Beyond and Circuit City. The more adventurous can walk over to the Springfield mall and Target - but its an easy ride as well.

For dinner I chose not to use my car and took advantage of Houlihan's over at the Hilton. The prices are very reasonable and the food and service were excellent. The Hampton Inn was very quiet, offers 102 channels of cable and high speed internet along with a very nice Cont. breakfast.

“Great value and very convenient”

I stay in this hotel several times a year, and have always had very positive experiences. First of all, the hotel is a great value for the money. My AAA rate here is usually in the $70-$80 per night range, which is very reasonable for this modern, business-class hotel. The service has always been above average to excellent, and the rooms have always been very clean and in good repair. The "Deluxe Continental Breakfast bar" is plentiful and fairly tasty.

One piece of advice...be sure to ask for a room on the front side of the hotel, because rooms on the back side face I-95, and can be somewhat noisy.

The best thing for me about this hotel is its convenience. Heading north on I-95, it is just outside the beltway and less than 1 minute off the interstate. It is also less than 1 mile from the southernmost Metro station (Franconia-Springfield), and the hotel provides a free shuttle to and from it. Since I hate driving in DC traffic, I drive to the hotel, park my car, and take the Metro to everywhere I need to go in DC. (For those of you who have not ridden the DC Metro subway system, it is clean, safe and efficient.)

The hotel is also convenient in terms of nearby amenities. There is a large shopping mall one block away (in walking distance), which has many of the leading department stores, as well as a multiplex movie theater and numerous restaurants. There is also a Hilton Hotel across the street which has a nice restaurant and lounge.

“No cookies!”

I stayed there for 3 weeks, first was great, second was fine, but the 3rd week was bad. I had a non-smoking room, which reeked of smoke from the other smoking rooms on the floor and some of the hotel front desk were rude. Breakfast was great the whole time, but I wish they had complimentary cookies after the work day.

“Front Desk Lack of Response”

Hampton Inn Springfield

I stayed at this hotel in conjunction with work in November 2005. This facility was not my first choice but my usual DC area haunts were full up, and I was able to snag a really good AAA rate – so stay here I did.

The Springfield Hampton Inn is located in a busy, upscale commercial area near the confluence of three major highways. Upon check-in, I was assigned a room on the fifth floor of this seven-story hotel. When I got to my room, both the high-speed internet and telephone were not fully operational, however, a call to the front desk brought quick resolution. The in-room internet is not wireless, and there should be a Cat 5 patch cord at the work desk to connect to your laptop. If not, call the front desk and they will provide one. Once hooked up, though, you will be pleased with the speed. Wireless internet access is available in the lobby.

The room seemed small to me, however, it was clean and quiet. As is the case with about half the Hamptons I have stayed in, the work desk is adjacent to the air conditioner, so prepare to be blown upon while you are working. In addition to standard amenities such as a hair dryer and coffee maker, the room came equipped with a refrigerator and microwave. The bed was comfortable and the large-screen TV offered an impressively large array of viewing options.

The Hampton and adjacent Comfort Inn have an agreement allowing Hampton guests to participate in Comfort Inn’s happy hour starting at 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Similarly, Hampton guests can use Comfort’s 3rd-floor self-service laundry facilities since there are none at the Hampton. $1.50 to wash and the same to dry.

Day Two of my stay presented more problems. The high-speed internet was working but now the telephone at the work desk, a two-line model, somehow got its lines crossed. When I dialed a number on one of the two lines, it also went through on the other one, rendering the phone unusable. Repairs to the phone line had to wait until Day Three. The other phone in the room worked fine but it was hard to do work while sitting on the bed. Also, a document delivery that was sent to me in care of the hotel via overnight service got delivered at 9:30 a.m. – and sat at the front desk all day. When I called the front desk that evening to ask if it had been delivered, they said, no, it hadn’t, and that they would call me when it was. I called the sender to confirm that she had indeed sent the document. She had, and emailed me the tracking information that showed the document had been delivered. When I printed that out and presented it to the front desk, the attendant quickly found the package! I needed that document at the time it was delivered, and complained to the manager about it. I left a note at the front desk for the manager to call me during the day, but he never got it.

The humongous Springfield Mall is approx. a half-mile distant. You can walk there but be prepared for 15 minutes or so on the hoof. The Hilton Hotel is across Loisdale Court from the Hampton. There is a Houlihan’s at the Hilton, making it the closest full-service restaurant within walking distance.

I would only stay here again if I found myself in the same situation, i.e., I was not able to get in to one of my “regular” hotels. The many small problems I encountered while a guest at this Hampton, and the front desk’s lack of response, soured me on the experience.

“Good Value for the Money”

Hampton Inn Springfield

Hotel has very good internet access - fast and free. If you are on a low carb diet, breakfast is not for you - muffins, bagels, cereal, etc. Otherwise, it is a decent breakfast.

Note: No fitness center onsite - you need to go to Bally's across the street in the Springfield Mall (entrance 6). It is a typically Bally's - not well cared for - too many people, not enough equipment.

Room is clean, well lighted, and it is a decent size. All rooms come with microwave and refrigerator. There is plenty of free parking. Hotel is within walking distance to a small shopping center with Barnes & Noble, DSW Shoe Warehouse, Bed Bath & Beyond and Circuit City. It is close to Metro (Franconia Springfield), but not walking distance. The Springfield Mall is right across the street - includes a Target, Macy's and JC Penny, as well as a variety of restaurants.
Location is very good, considering it is very close to 95, 395 and 495.
