September 17, 2007. I wish I could have stayed longer! The SpringHill Suites at Dulles Airport is a beautiful new hotel. Service was friendly and efficient. The rate for my suite was $197 per night. This was a reasonable rate compared to other hotels in the area.
Check in was “Marriott fast,” taking about 30 seconds. I gave the associate my name; she welcomed me and handed me my key packet for room was 332. The only negative aspect of my stay was that the two elevators were slow and the background music in the elevator was too loud.
The suite was great. The first thing that I noticed was the large LG flat screen TV. I have had these in several other hotels, but this was the first to actually offer HD programming. There were about a dozen HD channels and the picture was amazing. The hotel also offered pay-per-view HD movies, but I did not have time to watch one.
The suite consisted of a work/kitchen area with a good size desk, wired internet connection (complimentary), a office-style chair, and a micro kitchen. Internet speed was good, with download clocking at 340K. The upload speed was faster, clocking at 580K, which I thought was unusual. Connection to our corporate VPN worked fine.
The sitting area is separated from the sleeping area. In the sitting area there was a fairly comfortable sofa and arm chair. Lighting was very good. The bedroom area had a very comfortable king bed with both feather and foam pillows. The bedding was the new Marriott style with a duvet cover that is changed for each guest. Lighting in the bedroom area was also excellent. The TV was placed so that it could be swiveled and be seen from almost anywhere in the suite.
The bathroom consisted of a separate vanity area and bathroom. Both were well lit anf very functional. Bath amenities consisted of two bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, loation, Scope mouthwash, and a make-up remover cloth. For bathing there was a combination tub and shower. Hot water flowed immediately and water pressure was excellent.
The hotel was very quiet, which is very important to me. I did not hear any sounds from other quests.
My requested wake-up call came exactly on-time. The hotel offers a very nice complimentary breakfast buffet. Hot items included egg patties, sausage patties, make-your-own waffles, and oatmeal. There was a wide variety of cold items. The breakfast room itself was spacious and inviting with a large-screen HD TV on the wall. The evening before the fireplace was lit.
The hotel has a fairly large exercise room and a nice indoor pool and whirlpool spa. I did not have time to use either, but took photos.
I was traveling with my boss who would typically stay at a Hilton brand hotel. She commented “this is a really nice hotel.” I would definitely recommend the SpringHill Suites hotel near Dulles airport. The hotel is beautiful and the service was great.
