“smelly room”

Suffolk Days Inn

Jun 18, 2008

We had asked for a non-smoking room and were given a room that had a musty smell combining cleaning supplies and some other odors, perhaps to mask prior smoking in the room. The staff were curt, the continental breakfast marginal and lots of debris in the pool. My young boy found a frog swimming in the pool and we saved it from getting stuck in the outflow channel. By far the worst Days Inn that I have stayed in and Days Inn corporate could not have cared less about our experience.

“Hotel for Rendevous”

Suffolk Days Inn

Apr 23, 2008

We walked in to this hotel with a family. After negotiating us down from 119.00 to 50.00 per night, we ended up with a room that was not worth an hourly rate.

There were white blotchy stains on the floor by both sides of the bed. The chairs had the same stains. The lights flickered constantaly. The comforter/top sheet was threadbare and very thin.

The sink area was newly refurbished and clean.

After expressing dissatisfaction with the room, we got another room, only after fighting with the woman at the night desk.

The second room had newer rugs with only 4-5 stains like the last, near the bed. This room smelled like a strip club.

I was very upset that this chain would allow a hotel like this to exist under their name. We requested our money back and paid 10.00/night more about 10 miles away. It was the same chain. I have always been pleased with Days' Inn, but the Suffolk one (especially based on the late nite activity I saw happening on the property) should only be rented on an hourly basis (not to families).

“They'll charge you much more than they quote you!”

Nothing wrong with the hotel, though there were multiple problems financially and with false advertisement.

I travel for a living and I stay at many low end, chain hotels. Something simple, clean, and affordable was what I found at this hotel, as well. But the owner/staff does not provide you with the room ammenities and also raises the rates on you every possible way he can. Being that I travel this much, I know what to say and what to look for, but they wouldn't stop over the course of 3 nights of stay with the rate increases. They lied, they made up stories, and I continued to call their bluff. I walked away multiple times and said that I would stay elsewhere and they would stop, and lower the price $10.00/night just to get me to stay. It's a racket at this mom and pop shop. Watch out!

“Quiet”

Suffolk Days Inn

3 of 5 stars
Rose Hill, VA
Oct 10, 2007

First of all, let me say that I enjoyed my stay at Suffolk Days Inn. I was there for 6 nights, and had no problems with the outside noise or other occurances. However I was not satisfied with some of the other aspects of the room. I was given a room on the first floor that was for a handicapped individual. I had requested a King size room, but was given a queen instead. The hotel was booked up due to construction workers that was from out of town to do a job, so I took what I was given. I had driven for 19 hours, and did not want to argue about a room at this point either.
The linens were in terrible shape. Holes in the sheets, and two of the pillows did not have pillow cases on them. The towels and wash cloths were thin and grungy looking. Thinking ahead, I had brought my own pillow cases, and towels, and cleaning supplies as well, since I didn't know what to expect going into this hotel. The shower was dirty, hair everywhere still, and the nozzle for the shower head had been broken off from the rod that held it, so I had to stick it back down into a hole and adjust it so that I was able to wash my hair without holding onto it.
The light over the sink worked when it wanted to, so it was hard to apply makeup in the mirror sometimes. The fridge was really tiny, but kept things cold. My drinks would freeze up, and it was hard to tell which way to turn the knob to adjust it for the right temp. Microwave worked fine. TV was great, but programming missed some channels, and the signal kept going out. Getting up on the wrong side of the bed was a hazzard, as you were hit in the head by clothes hangers, if you didn't look where you were going. The toilet dripped all of the time, and the only way to keep from hearing it was to shut the bathroom door.
This Days Inn does have a pet acceptance, but you have to pay extra for it, and the owner charges tax on the weekend rate- separate from the daily rate, driving up the cost a little more. So what your quote is from the website may not be what you will be paying out of pocket.
The last few vacations I have taken to this area I have stayed in either Holiday Inn on the oceanfront, or Station One in Virginia Beach. I love this area, and wanted to stay in a different location to get to know the parts that I normally don't travel to. Getting around Hampton Roads is easy enough if you know what you want to see before you go. Always try to plan in advance for backups and heavy congestion anywhere. The beaches are the cleanest I have ever seen, and the people everywhere are friendly and helpful where ever I go. There is a lot of history to be seen here, so take time to enjoy yourself.

    • Disliked — Too small, room smelled stale, even after spraying fabric refresher.
