August 18 -19 weekend on Tangier Island at the Bay View Inn. Tangier is quite the place, in complete contrast to the metropolitan areas to its west, D.C. Baltimore, Philly etc. It is not “touristy” rather it is a working island with a few tourist amenities. We stayed at the Bay View Inn B & B. It was adequate, and comfortable enough. When staying on Tangier you have to remember that things come to the island by boat, and I from what we saw it takes some effort to get what you need. With that in mind things on the island aren’t fancy, they are adequate, but given the situation adequate is just fine.
Not much to do on Tangier but relax. There are a few restaurants with the clear favorite being Fisherman’s Corner, the food was great. The waterfront served good sandwiches. We ate at the Channel Marker and it was pretty awful. We did not try Lorraine’s sandwich shop or the Chesapeake House.
Bring insect repellent the biting flies and mosquitoes are bad. I would imagine a trip in the spring or fall when the bugs are less numerous would be more pleasant.
We didn’t see the need to rent a golf cart or bikes as it doesn’t take long to walk to where you need to go.
Stroll through town, comb the beach, sit and catch up on some reading. It is a nice get away. The culture is worth exploring too.
