We arrived here on our way back from North Carolina, in the middle of the night with no reservations. After driving for eight hours, all we wanted was a clean, affordable room for the night. And that's just what we got.

Pros:

* Extremely convenient to the highway.
* Pet friendly.
* Pleasant and helpful staff.
* Good sized room.
* Fairly clean.

Cons

* The towels in the room seemed to have been used. When I pointed this out to staff, I was told that they were fresh. However, the staffer told me she'd look into it.

I would recommend this place to anyone who needed a clean room for a night or two. Although, I don't know what goes on in Troutville, Virginia that would make it anything more than a stopover.

Spent one night at the Red Roof in Troutville (just north of Roanoke). It is a comfortable, safe and clean hotel located conveniently just off I-81.

The hotel staff were friendly and efficient. The room was clean and everything worked well. The television had a variety of basic cable channels as well as HBO. As a budget hotel, it lacks "frills" such as a hair dryer, internet and in-room coffee (coffee and tea are always available in the lobby, though). However, the room was comfortable and the bed was perfectly fine for a good night's sleep.

The continental breakfast offerings were limited -- oatmeal, toast and bananas -- but there is a Cracker Barrel next door if you are looking for something more substantial.

The hotel seems to be pet-friendly, as I saw other guests walking their dogs outside. Unfortunately, one very frisky pooch seemed to occupy the room above mine, and I could hear it pacing and jumping all evening. If you are concerned about this, you might request a room on the top floor. Otherwise, I didn't hear any noise from the hallway or adjacent rooms.

Overall, a good value for no-frills lodging.

Reservations were messed up by travel agent not the hotel's fault but lack of compassion and service is hotel's fault. ended up sleeping in car at truck stop then putting up with their horrible careless attitude
